What do you think happens to Asriel and Chara after the end of a TP route with no Geno run done?
Asriel seems to travel above ground at some point, as Flowey.
Most likely, this is just before the picture/pie room scenes we see, as he says this after soulless pacifist as well, so it seems he left and returned underground before these scenes, seeing that everyone was happy.
As for Charaā¦darn good question. Iām inclined to think Chara may have left the Underground with Frisk. You do get a moment of narration above ground.
Plus, Chara is a soulless entity with no determination of their own. They need a vessel for their essence to continue to exist.
And we know they do still exist, because Flowey addresses them by name at the end of Pacifist:
Now, I just said that Flowey likely returned Underground after seeing the happy ending but before the picture/bedroom scene, because he has an idea even after soulless pacifist that everyone is cool above ground.
So, wildly theorizing, I would say the Chara he talks to at the end of Pacifist is still in Friskās body, but fronting. This would mean that in order to access SAVE/LOAD powers, Chara/Frisk have to return Underground, and, seeing this, Flowey is like, āwoah dude, hold up there a lickity splickity second I got somethin to didly darn say to you.ā
Thatās because we instigate this scene with Flowey by reloading the game; else Chara will never meet Flowey again, and he doesnāt give his speech trying to convince them not to reset. By reloading, we return Underground, and that seems to be where the SAVE/LOAD powers are grounded. (heh)
The save screen, by the wall, is a screenshot of the underground. Compare the following two screenshots:
Before everyone leaves the Underground, your buds are there. If you reload after everyone leaves the Underground, then no one is thereā¦except us. When we try to reload, this is represented by Chara returning Underground to access the SAVE/LOAD powers, and Flowey sees this, and tries to get them to āchange their mindā, thinking the return was surely to reset.
This holds up for soulless pacifist endings as well. Chara returns, possessing Friskās body instead of just fronting this time, which still prompts the exact same reaction from Flowey. He doesnāt see anything wrong and still thinks the world is safe and peaceful even though Chara has returned in Friskās body.
So it seems that when he talks to Chara, heās always talking to Chara in Friskās body; just under different circumstances that even he isnāt aware of.
On another note, the fact that he isnāt surprised that theyāre in Friskās body in the first place means he knew more than he let on to Frisk about Frisk housing a second entity. Thatās why he knows Chara can be appealed to by talking about Frisk being happy and living their life, and that Friskās friends are all happy, and suspects this is a source of concern for them:
It seems he chose Friskās and their friendsā well-being as the best method to get a Chara he thinks is resetting to change their mind; he knew that Frisk and Chara were connected and communicating. Not just that, but he knew they were fighting to stop the power to SAVE/RESET.
And thatās why heās not shocked that Chara is there in Friskās body. They have split control of their body, after all.
But all of that does raise the question of why the Underground houses SAVE/LOAD powers, and why the SAVE can only be accessed from there and no SAVES created outside of it. Maybe itās because itās Undertale.
