Hello to all extraterrestrials! It's been a long time since I posted something from my setting (the last time was in March). And all this time I heve been working on the third sophont. These very different-looking creatures have inhabited the AVI Empire for the last thousand years. Their numerous clans use AVI infrastructure to move around. They look at humans as irregular creatures with infernal culture and ethics, just like humans look at them.

All creatures in the sector dabble in genetic modification. Humans, Aviens, and even Antphants often modify their bodies (appearance and metabolism) to solve specific everyday problems or adapt to alien environments. But how would you feel if your roommate doubled as a toaster? Disko is the example of this madness case!
Firstly, this aliens were from warm equatorial tidal forests that was the very rare ecosystems on their massive dry and frigid planet. Disko's body looks like a godless hybrid of Earthish turtles, crabs and sloths. They evolved for relatively fast and maneuverable movement in the treetops. So their "five" legs are very flexible and strong! One of the legs is a nursing limb (or tentacle), which has teeth and a mouth opening at the end and is rarely used for grasping branches. This is the legacy of Disko's radial ancestors.
Secondly, Diskos have a sex determination system unique to all sophonts. They can be said to have three fully functional female sexes and only one male sex. A special X* chromosome suppresses the analogue of Y chromosome, resulting in the development of a masculine type Disko. But those lucky enough to possess both a normal and a modified X chromosome are completely sterile and unable to have children. However, it is precisely thanks to this system that Diskos have learned to modify their genome very effectively!
The "XX*" genotype produces the polymorphic type Disko. Both chromosomes have a region responsible for the shutdown of one of them. In the body, this process occurs rather randomly and results in minor differences in the rate of tissue and organ formation. However, if this region is artificially introduced into another chromosome, it (or a part of it) can also be switched off. Combined with the technology of introducing new genes, this has opened up incredible potential for genetic modification of Disko.
Diskos are highly social and, since time immemorial, have formed strictly hierarchical groups called clans. At the head of the clan is a matriarch (the feminine type) and a close male, the king. Their children and, occasionally, more distant relatives, form a retinue that provides for all the clan's needs. With the development of genetic technology, clans began to specifically modify their offspring by introducing genes and controlling the shutdown of chromosomes. This became particularly possible during periods of global military clashes between superclans – groups numbering hundreds of matriarchs. A sort of totalitarian society, these clans used genetic engineering to create GMO soldiers and living, thinking weapons.
Those times are long gone, but the caste system they developed then still persists on their Homeplanet, Disko, and on nearby worlds that voluntarily isolated themselves from the AVI. The free clans of Disko gradually eliminated the caste system over the course of a millennium, and all horrific modifications are now banned. And also some matriarchs of this free clans are the offsprings of genetically modified casts.
This may be the most complex introductory post from a biological perspective, but the Disko are no slouch!

Эти очень разные на вид существа населяли империю АВИ в течение последней тысячи лет. Их многочисленные кланы используют инфраструктуру АВИ для передвижения. Они смотрят на людей как на странных существ с инфернальной культурой и этикой — точно так же, как люди смотрят на них.
Все существа в секторе балуются генетическими модификациями. Люди, Авиены и даже Антфанты часто модифицируют свои тела (внешний вид и метаболизм) для решения определенных повседневных задач или адаптации к условиям инопланетных пространств. Но как бы вы отнеслись к тому что ваш сосд по комнате по совместительству выполняет функцию тостера? Диско - яркий пример такого безумия!
Во-первых, эти инопланетяне обитали в тёплых экваториальных приливных лесах — одной из немногих экосистем на их огромной, сухой и холодной планете. Тело Диско похоже на безбожный гибрид Земных черепах, крабов и ленивцев. Они эволюционировали, чтобы относительно быстро и ловко передвигаться по верхушкам деревьев. Поэтому их «пять» ног являются очень гибкими и сильными! При этом одна из ног является кормовым щупальцем, которое имеет зубы и ротовое отверстие на конце и редко используется для хватания за ветки. Это наследие радиально симметричных предков Диско.
Во-вторых, Диско имеют уникальную для всех софонтов систему определения пола. Можно сказать, что они имеют три полноценных женских пола и всего один мужской. Особая X* хромосома подавляет аналог Y хромосомы и приводит к развитию Диско маскулинного типа. При этом счастливые обладатели и обычной и измененной Х хромосом являются полностью стерильными и не могут иметь детей. Однако именно благодаря такой системе Диско научились очень эффективно модифицировать свой геном!
Генотип "ХХ*" даёт полиморфный тип Диско. Обе хромосомы имеют участок, отвечающий за выключение одной из них. В организме этот процесс протекает довольно случайно и приводит к незначительным различиям в скорости формирования тканей и органов. Но если искусственно внедрить этот участок в другую хромосому, то можно выключить и её (или её участок). Вместе с технологией внедрения новых генов это открыло невероятный потенциал для генетической модификации Диско.
Диско являются очень социальными и испокон веков формируют строго иерархические группы называемые кланами. Во главе клана стоит матриарх (женственный тип) и приближенный к ней самец - король. Их дети и изредка более дальние родственники формируют свиту, которая и обеспечивает все нужды клана. С развитием генных технологий кланы начали специально модифицировать потомство, внедряя гены и управляя выключением хромосом. В частности это стало возможно в период глобальных военных сталкновений между суперкланами - группами насчитывающими сотни матриархов. Являясь своего рода тоталитарными обществами эти кланы использовали генную инженерию для создания ГМО-солдат и живого мыслящего оружия.
Эти времена давно прошли, но выработанная тогда система каст сохраняется до сих пор на родной планете Диско и на ближайших к ней мирах, которые добровольно изолировались от АВИ. Свободные же кланы Диско постепенно устраняли кастовую систему на протяжении тысячелетия и в настоящее время все ужасающие модификации были запрещены в них. И даже некоторые из матриархов этих свободных кланов являются потомками генетически модифицированных каст.
Возможно это самый сложный ознакомительный пост с точки зрения биологических знаний, но и Диско не пальцем деланы!
