bob had always been my favorite member of the band. it so happened that i'm into drummers in general and he just seemed like the perfect dude. he looked cool, he played exceptionally, he was a quiet guy who was mainly into music and animals โ i thought that was just awesome. i liked the person, the musician, and only later did the fandom dramas surface (for me), and in case it still isn't obvious to visitors of my profile: I DON'T GIVE A FUCK ABOUT YOUR DRAMA AND PROBLEMS. i see bob as a completely different person. he was good. he was the kind of guy who quietly does his job, who quietly helps animals, who doesn't grovel to people to prove them wrong. i respected him for that and hoped that however bad things got, he'd pull through and find something to live for.
bob was special to me. i had a totally special thing going on with him โ i cared about how he was doing and wanted to let him know that not everyone in the fandom hated him. a few years ago i wished him happy birthday on Insta, and a few weeks later he... came into my comments and thanked me. it felt like nothing else. i was glad he felt comfortable enough to leave a comment. i thought for ages about what to say, and in the end i told him to feel better. sad that it never happened.
