These are just a few of the really amazing ideas and super fun tattoos that I was able to do this year! Some of them were out of mt element but I think those weree the ones that helped me to figure out my style more and more. Some were even tattoos for people that I love so much and was so happy to see them carry a piece of my work with them forever!

My goal for 2024 is a little different now. I really want to focus less on only producing for my job and instead make sure that I am also drawing for myself. I want to do more art outside of just things that I can tattoo on myself and others. I want to fibd a good work/life balance between the two and continue to grow both individually and as an artist.

what uncanny timing! I was seriously just discussing aspects of this with a couple of friends. You’re right, I do have a “anti violent sex” position. I’m an unashamed radical feminist, completely opposed to the hypersexualization of power dynamics. I promote egalitarian relationships – including sex – and full understanding of consent. 

The state of fanfiction right now (at least in the BTS fandom) is incredibly upsetting for me. It’s damn near impossible to find something that doesn’t include the elements you noted. I have nothing wrong with smut without plot–if it is smut built around a trusting, equal, consenting relationship. Consent meaning without any coercion (including guilting, whining, pressuring, threats, etc) There was a beautiful scene in one of my favorite fics where one character kinda just gave in to the situation and his partner pulled back and said something along the lines of “oh yeah, give me that lukewarm consent baby.” but did not continue the moment because “lukewarm consent” (giving in) is NOT consent. It was such a small moment in the fic but truly sent such a POWERFUL (and much needed) message. 

What’s clear to me with fanfiction is that the authors who write stories with these glamorized abusive power dynamics have been perfectly groomed by the pornography industry. 

Also clear is that these people have fallen perfectly for the homophobic/heteronormative script of top/bottom but have also twisted that into scripts of dom/sub - because obviously we can’t have egalitarian sex whether between men and women or men and men or women and women. Culturally speaking there’s already a power hierarchy in hetero sex (or man/woman I suppose…bisexuals can engage in opposite sex intercourse so…) anyway! in opposite sex intercourse there’s already a power hierarchy at play thanks to our glorious state of living in a patriarchal society. And with the heteronormative aspect we automatically want to assign a “submissive” position to someone. Again - because we lack models of egalitarian, loving, giving, supportive, engaged sex. 

Before anyone tries to come for me for “kink shaming” let me be incredibly clear – I support people in finding out what they like in their sexual experiences… however, I also greatly encourage people to critically examine where the connection was made between certain acts and sexual arousal. When women are socialized to believe that our only two options in life are to be “invisible” or “fuckable” but that sex needs to include vile acts of degradation and abuse … well.. no one wants to be invisible so accommodations are made. And they shouldn’t have to be! 

Did you know that most teenagers believe that sex is supposed to end with ejaculation occurring on their face? Porn is destroying relationships (and driving the sex trafficking industry…but that’s an entirely separate rant) and no one seems to give a shit. 

I write fanfiction. I love writing. And I hope to be able to provide an alternative script of what relationships and sex entail. I feel that more of us should speak out about the current state of fanfiction and voice the concerns we have. 

Also, as a mom myself I gotta say - WE NEED TO TALK MORE TO KIDS ABOUT WHAT HEALTHY RELATIONSHIPS AND SEX LOOK LIKE. We can’t leave their sexual education up to the porn industry - look how well that’s been working.

As someone who came from a controlling and abusive relationship where sex was controlled point blank by the 'dominant party' its so refreshibg to hear someone speaking about these things.

Its so easy for teen and even young adults to try to replicate what they see in porn to feel more desirable especially women. We're taught from such a young age that we're only imoortant if we're desirable and submissive and women represented in porn are both of those things.

and i know, from watching my friends and seeing their panic and terror when something broke, that not only were not nearly enough children told this thing, many children were punished in place of being reassured

and thats heartbreaking

so heres the words from my mom that i was always told, and theyre the same words that anyone who never got to hear them should hear now, courtesy of my mom, who has repeated those same words to many a friend of mine and now to you

if i ever broke anything, the first words out of her mouth would always be and have always been, “are you hurt?” 

i would say no

she would say, “thats okay, then”

and i would ask why

My grandmother owns crystal bowls that have been passed down to her from her grandmother. Being a family with Jewish heritage in Austria, every single piece of family history we own is basically a treasure in itself. I was already an adult when she allowed me to take one of them home with me, of course only after I swore several oaths to keep it safe. I can go months and years without breaking a single dish, but lo and behold, it takes two weeks and a split second of not paying attention, and suddenly that crystal bowl, that’s worth more to my grandmother than the entire rest of her furniture, goes flying and shatters into a million pieces. I swear I watched for what felt like an hour as that thing dropped, turned around itself and finally crashed in a spectacular impact. Anyway, it’s completely beyond repair, and I’m freaking out because my grandmother will murder me. Only, she will not, because even worse, she’s going to be fucking heartbroken and so, so disappointed with me she won’t even find it within herself to murder me. But, you gotta do what you gotta do - not being able to face her while confessing, I call her, in tears, apologizing a hundred times before she finally goes: “Gigi, calm down now, what happened??” “*sobbing* I- I broke your grandma’s bohooohooowl -” And my grandmother, bless that woman, starts laughing hysterically. She’s laughing so much I think, I must have broken her, that’s it, she’s lost her marbles now and it’s my fault, until she wheezes out: “Gigi that bowl survived two world wars and the Nazis but not a month in your kitchen!” and of course I fucking lost it too at that point. That’s how I learned, that in the end, it’s really all about perspective. 

We store all of our decorations upstairs when its not Christmas time and I was helping my mom carrying everything down. Now we've always had big dogs and as I was carrying the box with the manger scene down the first two steps of our stairwell and our dog nudged me out of the way and ran down. My foot slipped and I landed on my butt on the stairs and slid a few down. The box with the manger scene, hit our hardwood floors upstairs and we all kind of froze when we heard the ceramics inside break.

I literally started bawling the minute I heard them break and my mom just walked over, nudged the box to the side, and asked me if I was alright. She got me up off the steps and made sure I didn't break a bone or seriously hurt myself. (I am very clumsy and fall often.) Then she opened the box and pulls out on the camel that I accidentally beheaded and goes "well if you though this one was ugly you didn't have to take his head off". All I could do was watch as she superglued his head back together and checked the rest of the figurines to make sure there was not any more damage.

and now we have artists like ariana grande, nicki minaj, fifth harmony, daya, etc (this isn’t a callout post for them i don’t care about them as individuals i’m just commenting on a trend in pop culture perpetrated by the music industry) who put out music with feminist sentiments but absolutely no evidence of actively rebelling against societal expectations for women. “i don’t need boys i don’t need to be pretty i don’t need to be sexy” performed in scantily clad clothing with makeup sponsored by perfume and makeup companies is proof that capitalistic pressure has kind of destroyed the rebellious nature of the feminist movement.

so now we have a generation of girls raised on the internet convinced that performing femininity and caking their natural face in makeup in order to conform to unrealistic standards of beauty, placing their worth in their physical appearance inherently by paying money in order to appease some made up standard of what is acceptable for women, and they’ve convinced themselves that this, this conformity of expectation of feminist for women, is inherently feminist?

like it sucks like you guys know feminism is a counteractive movement right? like you know to be feminist is to rebel right? it’s not enough to consume pretty, neat, but wholly hypocritical ideals of feminism. it’s lazy. we have a generation of girls who want to adhere to expectations for women, who want to become that ideal that men have constructed, but now because they “reclaimed” it, that’s feminist?

like no sorry you Can do those things you Can put on makeup and shave and look pretty and girl you Can but don’t pretend that’s feminist it’s literally not. you’re not helping feminism the commodification of feminism is not helpful. men are not upset by you saying “the future is female” when you still look pretty and pink and non-threatening. we aren’t liberated by expectation just because you are now accepting of it. feminism is not complacency.

To be a feminist doesn't mean being one thing or another. It means that you don't have to adhere to anyone's ideologies about what you should look like, how you should act, what you should wear, what jobs you should have, etc. It means that you are demanding the right to chose for yourself how to act and how to present yourself and what you do. The women i spoke to never marginialized themselves or other women for doing what they chose to do.

One of the most amazing and influential women i have ever met is Betsy Damon, an ecological artist who chose to raise a family, who chose to divorce a pos husband who didnt support her and treated her poorly when divorce wasn't accepted, and who chose to create art the way she wanted because she wanted to. She literally walked into China and illegally created the Living Water Garden because it was skmething she wanted to do even though the government tokd her no. She told me that feminism is a means of giving yourself and other women the right to make a choice.

My favorite artist of all time, Judy Chigcao, started one the first all female art programs and was a founder of Womanhouse. (Look it up its amazing). She wanted women to be able to sit at the table they had been denied a seat at for centuries. She wanted them to be aware of their bodies, of what their bodies looked like and how their bodies work in all natures be they sexually or reproductively. She taught her students to reclaim their own bodies in whatever way they wanted to regardless of what she thought they should do, or their peers thought they should do? or the men around them thought they should do.

So, while I understand where you are coming from in saying that being effeminant and following beauty trends is 'counterproductive' to feminism, I must politely disagree. Marginalizing entire groups of women because they dont practice feminism in the same way you do is counterproductive. The people we are fighting against for our rights want us to fight amongst ourselves. It makes us weaker. I am lgbt and a feminist and some days, I like to dress up and glam out because it makes me feel comfortable and others I like to chill in my favorite fluffy flannel and torn up jeans with my hair a mess because that also makes me feel comfortable. And you know what that is my choice to make. No one will ever tell me that I do not have that choice. I AM A FEMINIST BECAUSE I THINK EVERY WOMAN SHOULD GET THAT CHOICE.
