Sam smiled, and nodded in agreement. Although he wasnāt against parties, something was holding him back tonight. Perhaps it was because he knew Alex wasnāt entirely enjoying himself, or because Campbell was expected to arrive soon.Ā āDo you want to leave?ā He spoke and signed, before gesturing to the door, knowing the loud music would make it harder for him to be understood.Ā
Without hesitation, Alex nodded, the idea of getting some fresh air, and someĀ aloneĀ time with Sam, incredibly appealing. But the quick response was selfish, especially without discussion. Sighing, he shrugged, pointing back toward his friend. āDo you? Iāll stay if you want to.ā
āI didnāt realise winning made you popular,ā Aimee replied honestly, glancing at the beer pong table with a new sense of awe.Ā āI wouldāve tried harder if I knew that. I was just kindaā lobbing it, when it was my turn. Although I did get one in, thatās gottaā count for something, aye?ā
āWell, according to the pack of testosterone that set this game up, it does. YouĀ doĀ know whose party youāre at, right?ā Alex had only come along because Marina and Sam had wanted to go. Heād have steered clear of the so-called āRiot Clubā otherwise.Ā āIt doesnāt matter, really,ā he shook his head. āPopularity isĀ veryĀ overrated. William mightāve filled this house with people, but he only has three actual friends,Ā trustĀ me.ā
Despite his grumpy attitude, Alex sensed her positivity, and although he wouldāve usually rolled his eyes, he decided to give in, even if only a little. So, he picked up another quarter and tried again, failing miserably.Ā āWell⦠youāre doing better than me. Guess youāre one step closer to prom queen!ā
āI donāt get how successfully bouncing some plastic balls into some shitty plastic cups translates to popularity among peers, but who am I to question the system, right?ā
āI do think,ā Noora nodded in agreement, already having a rather strong opinion about William, considering his treatment of Adeline. Still, she avoided mentioning him. His recent behaviour with her had beenĀ odd, and whilst she hadnāt changed her mind about him, heād given her something to consider. Perhaps he was right about one thing, that she didnāt know him, not in the way she believed she did. Again, though, her conclusion was swayed by the scene heād caused here. If this was Williamās idea ofĀ fun, she didnāt think much of it. People were either blackout drunk, like Brooke, or uncomfortable, like herself and Alex.Ā
āI donāt know,ā she answered honestly, before elaborating.Ā āI enjoy socialising, spending time with my girlfriends. But I donāt feel good when I drink, not like they do. You canāt seem to have one without the other at a party, hm?ā She shrugged.Ā āI think I would prefer the wine and cheese game night.ā
āNot at one of these parties, thatās for sure. They practically handed me a drink at the door.ā Arms crossed, he observed the event through the window. āWell, we should just have one then, maybe alcohol free. No wine, and no assholes allowed. What do you think?ā It wasnāt like him to make plans so boldly, but he doubted theyād actually come to fruition anyway. All too often, people didn't come through.
āAre they inside? Your friends?ā Heād left Marina and Sam in there, chatting to some others. He certainly hadnāt been in the mood to join them.

āOkay,ā Noora replied with a smile, already heading towards the nearest exit. And within the next minute, she was outside, breathing in the fresh air sheād been so desperate for. She often felt like she couldnāt breathe, trapped inside with overly drunk teenagers. āAh, this is better. So ā how come you also donāt like parties?ā
Needless to say, Alex felt a lot more at peace once theyād gone outdoors. Obviously, the noise was still prevalent, but at least now he didnāt feel like he was beingĀ watched. He was frustrated with himself that heād even agreed to come, as if heād have missed out otherwise.Ā āMajorly,ā he nodded. Glancing over at her for a moment in thought, he shrugged.Ā āI guess I just donāt like the people who throw them. Not that I reallyĀ knowĀ this guy, but I know his best friend." His tone was embittered as he thought of Guzman, how they never saw eye-to-eye. "Plus, you can tell a lot about people from what type of parties they throw, donāt you think? This certainly isnāt some wine and cheese game night,ā he added, voice dripping with sarcasm as he watched someone stumble into a bush. āHow about you? Why'd you come?ā She was so well dressed, sheād clearly made an effort forĀ someĀ reason.
āI⦠do not understand this, either,āĀ Noora glanced down at the game, clearly unimpressed. Sheād come along because of a promise sheād made to Max, but this wasnāt herĀ scene, she wasnāt enjoying her time at all.Ā āI am going to get some air. Will you come with me? Or do you want to ah ā playā¦Ā ābeer pongā?ā
āGod, no,ā he sighed in relief, grateful for an out. āI donāt want to play beerĀ anything.āĀ Tossing the quarters heād held back onto the table, he smiled at her, showing he was ready to follow.Ā āPlease, get me out of here.ā

āWell, your way of pretendingĀ sucks. Iāve seen charity commercials more upbeat than you, man.ā Showing he meant no offense, Noah smiled, before picking up a Ping-Pong ball and holding it out to him.Ā āJust have a go and stop overanalysing this shit. If you donāt enjoy it, weāll go do somethinā else.ā
āFair enough,ā Alex shrugged, failing to hide a smile at the comment. Really, he just appreciated that someone cared enough to help improve his night. āI might have to watch a few, get some tips.ā
He feigned an eye roll, but was unable to say no when the stranger had made such an effort,Ā andĀ offered to still keep him company afterward. So, Alex took the ball and bounced it on the table, and much to his surprise, he actually got it in. Scoffing for a moment, he smiled at Noah, pointing toward the cup the ball now floated in. āWell, I hope you enjoyĀ that. Bottomās up.ā Smirking as he watched the male reach for the cup, familiarity suddenly tugged at Alexās brain. āWhere do I know you from?ā
