Holy fuck ok so aside from the obvious biblical references in the series, I’m obsessed w the way it deals with ideas like sacrifice, being “chosen”, and being deserving of salvation/punishment. Definitely projecting but I feel like these alabama guys would’ve had religious upbringings, and specifically Alex’s warped concept of righteousness is very clear in his actions even tho faith has nothing 2 do w any of it.

Now I want to draw Alex as a kid going to church. There something in my brain saying he was the absolute golden child, knew all the members by name, up until high school/college where he spent some time in reflection but eventually went all in on the self righteousness aspects and completely expelled himself from any sort of community that would even vaguely call out those behaviors.

As someone who also projects religious trauma onto the guy, I think it would be interesting to play with Alex isolating religious ideals into a very contained bubble, removing them from any semblance of faith. He’s not religious, but those who hear him talk might originally assume so. Until they realize that he believes himself to be an integral part of the greater power he refers to. He sees himself as both a martyr and a judge.
