ALEX DAVEY CODES
Hello y’alls.
I use this tumblr primarily to show off what I am currently working on, which for the past few years has been drawing drawing drawing. What you may not know is that I have recently (as of May 4 2015 to be exact) started taking part-time HTML and CSS classes at HackerYou . My friend Emilia had taken the full-time Boot Camp and had amazing results in her professional career- something that I was not feeling comfortable with myself.
I met up with Heather Payne, HackerYou’s CEO and we discussed my options. Should I drop everything and start the Boot Camp? Did I want to try evening classes so I could keep my comfy day-job? I started part-time classes within two months and LOVED IT. Half way through the course, it dawned on me that the summer Boot Camp was approaching and that- if I wanted to, I could drop out of part-time and begin full-time. Cut to 1 week of coding every night after my 9-6 job until 1:00 a.m. to finish the pre-course work. I gave my notice, said my good-byes to my friends at work (BYE TANTRUMITES!) and here I am, a full-time hacking student.
The first week at the HackerYou BootCamp definitely resembles Summer Camp. They have a strong focus on team building and using each other as resources and help. Using games and challenges, they encourage communication and teamwork within our pre-arranged groups. Thanks to my other three members (Vesna, Tim, and Adeel) we have won 2/2 challenges so far! Also, Christopher is the best Camp Counsellor I’ve ever had.
It’s important to know that we can rely on each other to help with our own personal challenges and code. THREE CHEERS FOR SLACK!
As of right now, our first week’s assignment was to create a 1-page site. I have been re-working my own personal website and trying to create a more simple, easy to navigate site.
This summer will be all .divs, .spans, and h1′s (but only one h1... oh god what a crumby joke) so the cat and dog paintings may be put on hold.

xoxo
