I reached out to a vocal coach today asking if there was anything I could be doing to help save as much of my vocal range as possible while my voice drops from the testosterone. I did not think this vocal coach would respond but If you know me you know im always shooting my shot anyway. I didn’t think he would respond because he is Brandi Carlile’s vocal coach, and Lizzo’s, and Justin Timberlake’s and Rhianna’s, and Charlie Puth’s, Doja Cat, Dave Matthews, Chris Stapleton and the list goes on. But this man shocked the hell out of me and called me up. We FaceTimed for a while and in that one call he had me hitting a high C. I haven’t lost my high notes at all. I just didn’t know how to use my voice now that it has changed. He was so attentive and helpful and obviously so knowledgeable. He told me about how he helped Brandi more easily hit those high notes in her song The Joke. He corrected me when I was making the same mistake she was making. And my mind is truly blown by the difference it made to take his advice. What a kind soul. As you all know it was a heavy decision for me to transition and one of the things that weighed on me the most was the possibility of losing my singing voice. This man doesn’t even realize the weight he has lifted off of me tonight with his kindness. Not to mention the absolute thrill of working with a coach of his caliber that coaches some insane talent. So much appreciation and love to you sir.
