Studio Weave, a Hackney based design group / architecture firm engaged to deliver a temporary public realm on the Narrow Way.Â
At the moment the street is a pretty sorry place. A few bits of wood have been bolted together, and the floor resembles a broken kaleidoscope ⌠the pictures here show the paint one week after it was put down. This hasnât been helped by Thames Water deciding to open up a pit in the middle of the Narrow Way to repair water pipes.
Addition - Studio Weave have asked me, in a tweet, to mention a few things in bold below.
The painting is only 50% completed, and there will be additional work done to improve its appearance. Painting is done at night, when footfall is lower, but - as a result of lower temperatures [and rainfall] itâs harder for the paint to stick and set in time for use the next day.
The temporary seating and related structural work + some plants, - which will be up-cycled after the completion of the project [really good use of materials and legacy] - is only 10% completed.
There will be urban planters [fruit trees, herbs, decorative specimens] in place from the 11th of August. All plants will be donated to local schools and community groups after the end of the project. Residents of Hackney are to be invited down to participate in planting these pre-selected trees.
