I have so many thoughts about this podcast episode… I have never been a big shipper of the actors, although I have been very curious about their unusual dynamic over the years. How can two people create such amazing on-screen chemistry? Was something going on with them?

After listening to their wide-ranging discussion it’s astounding to me how little they seem to know each other on a basic level, while simultaneously sharing this X Files cultural zeitgeist phenomenon together that only they two can understand, and a short-hand and intimacy that frankly gives me whiplash.

I think my biggest takeaway is that these are two people who have forged an unbreakable, complex bond over 30+ years who have completely different communication styles. Completely different ways of dealing with conflict and shame. Completely different takes on the same topics. Sometimes they seem to have been miles apart in their shared experiences.

I mean, no wonder so many ship David and Gillian. If there was ever a co-worker rivals to love story we could want, this might be it.

And there’s this conflict in the community about what the exact nature of there relationship and feelings were and are.

Are they two people who worked insane hours together and formed a bond?

Was there interest there, but nothing ever came to it?

Did they mess around and it got messy?

And I just don’t know what to think because the only people who can answer that won’t. I don’t think fans are entitled to their personal business, but there is no simple answer as to why their relationship is so unusual and baffling.

It’s easy to say that DD and GA played to the fans with their flirty dynamic in 2016 or that fans are seeing what they want to see, but 1. That only explains so much 2. Even people who aren’t familiar with their dynamic thinks their interactions may have been more than co-stars even if it’s just feelings.

This isn’t to say that this is “proof” they’d been involved, but rather, even those who have never watched the show have come to the same conclusions that DD and GA’s interactions are more than meets the eye.

I can see that Reddit AMA and Gillian and David’s tweets being bait, but the jimmy kimmel interview where he even asked what was up with them?

Gillian’s WWHL interview where she’s unnecessarily flustered and fidgety when talking about David. Or her reaction about them wanting to show her a certain picture of David that had her like: 😰. Even when the show was on air, there was an interview or two that was curious. That had me scratching my head because, sometimes, Gillian can’t answer a point blank question without muddying it.

And it feels like David kinda created this tension, but I don’t know. He’s weird about Gillian. They’re weird about each other.

He was the first person she told about her pregnancy and he was there for her after her divorce, but there was tension the years in between. They’d seemed close, there was an intimacy off screen. Yet, he gets secretly married a few months later and doesn’t tell her?

They had this strained relationship, but some of their interactions makes me wonder if the source of their strain wasn’t just long hours in Vancouver?”

Like the FTF kiss they knew wasn’t going to be in the movie (by that point).

And their sexual humor towards one another comes with such ease. Neither will hesitate to make some inappropriate joke without breaking a sweat, but talking about their relationship goes into the weird territory. And didn’t DD laugh and GA simulated a blowjob on him??? I may be misremembering that, but their relationship is so strange.

So, what’s the point of this post: idk.

GA and DD’s relationship has always been undefinable, magical, and headscrstching and some of this stuff fans are making up isn’t in their heads.

I also want to add that during the promotion for season 10, it didn’t make sense for them to allegedly do interview baiting fans. Most people don’t care if they’re romantically involved or not, so their behavior on kimmel wouldn’t make sense from a promotional perspective. These fans are going to watch regardless. The tweets and Reddit makes sense tho!

Last last note, what was up with them both separating with their long time partners around the same time and wasn’t it on or near each other’s birthdays? Lol
