The Beast Inside

Alec shrugged, and playfully pushed his shoulder, “Ahh don’t get so mushy, you’re showing me around I at least need you till then.” He immediately straightened and looked at him seriously, “I’m kidding, you’re a good friend and you’re not allowed to leave me to fend for myself.”

Alec nudged him, “I am only joking, you’re allowed to be bossy.” They continued walking and at Oliver’s comment he abruptly stopped and grabbed his shoulders, “Hey, you’er not bugging me, you’re being nicer than anyone else I’ve met here or out there.” He looked him in the eyes, “You’re not a bother.”

“Ahh, interesting name, Alec.” He nodded at him.

Alec rolled his eyes and followed the younger boy, “Oh so now you’re the boss huh?” They continued to walk around the rooms and he looked n them and looked around the halls trying to remember the way and the different paths to get there. He was knocked out of his memorizing by the pressure on his shoulder, Oliver was there and Alec smiled at him, “You’re inquisitive, it’s not a crime. I am not uncomfortable, just distracted.”

“Hello...” Alec poured himself a glass of juice and looked curiously, “And you are?”

Alec followed after him, “That would actually be really helpful.” He continued to walk down the hallway, trying to decide how to phrase his answer. “I’m not a very nice person, and I realized rather recently that not everyone who was... my friend actually liked me.” The walls seemed to get narrow and he inhaled quickly, “I just don’t trust that what people say is what they mean. That’s all.”

Alec nodded, “Eh if I really need to I’m sure I could find something. So don’t worry about it, how long have you been clean?”

Alec nodded a little, “Yeah I mean it doesn’t really matter who finds out what. Can you get that prescribed here?”

“I don’t think you understand what you’re doing.” Alec growled back, feeling himself starting to lose control. “You’re walking a dangerous line.”

Alec backed away and shook his head, “No.” He tried to remember the way back to his room, “I should probably go.”

“No, if anyone found out I was on drugs.” The thought of what his dad might have done made Alec shiver, “No.”

Alec picked at some nonexistent dirt under his fingernails and shrugged, “Almost killed a friend from the past. Apparently that’s frowned upon.” 

Alec motioned to the door and started walking towards it, “What do you think about trying to find some cards or something to take our minds off of things?” The layout of the asylum was not familiar to him, and he would feel better if he knew where a few things were. “Eh I just don’t care, I don’t really take people seriously if they do come on to me.”

“I believe it was a joke... I think.” Alec really didn’t know what to make of his earlier conversations. “Yeah, the control thing is waning.” He scratched his beard and shrugged, “People can’t really control themselves here anyway, so I guess I’m just fitting in.”

The beast continued down the hallway, his senses trying to find something to eat. There weren’t any people around and it seemed like something was blocking his smell. “Come out, someone.” It called out, hoping that someone would be enticed by his antics. “I could use a snack, anything will do. A finger a toe.” He growled a little bit, wishing something would come along.

Alec shook his head, “Definitely not a kitty.” He shifted a bit and looked over at her, “No, but I don’t want to instigate it in anyway.” Control was the only way to keep the beast at bay, and if he didn’t then who would?
