Do you have any advice for retaining the history you learn. Iโm majoring in history and feel like I only remember small chunks of what I learn in lectures. It makes me feel that Iโm not good enough to study history, especially when it come to class discussions.

You should never feel like youโre not good enough for class discussions! If you come with an open mind, ready to learn, youโre off to a great start.
In terms of retaining knowledge, Iโm honestly not sure Iโve retained half of what Iโve learned over the years. Itโs impossible to remember everything โ even if you love the content! I would focus on building your knowledge and memory of core historical issues youโre interested in, by recording notes (in whatever way works best for you) and regularly going back to them to refresh/update. Donโt be afraid to seek new opinions/sources on topics youโve learned previously. You never know when or how something will โstickโ with you. Mixing up the ways you gain knowledge would be a good way to vet what works best for you as well. and donโt beat yourself up if you forget things! History is an ever-evolving discipline, and no one knows it all! ๐ค
