Do you have any advice for retaining the history you learn. Iβm majoring in history and feel like I only remember small chunks of what I learn in lectures. It makes me feel that Iβm not good enough to study history, especially when it come to class discussions.

You should never feel like youβre not good enough for class discussions! If you come with an open mind, ready to learn, youβre off to a great start.
In terms of retaining knowledge, Iβm honestly not sure Iβve retained half of what Iβve learned over the years. Itβs impossible to remember everything β even if you love the content! I would focus on building your knowledge and memory of core historical issues youβre interested in, by recording notes (in whatever way works best for you) and regularly going back to them to refresh/update. Donβt be afraid to seek new opinions/sources on topics youβve learned previously. You never know when or how something will βstickβ with you. Mixing up the ways you gain knowledge would be a good way to vet what works best for you as well. and donβt beat yourself up if you forget things! History is an ever-evolving discipline, and no one knows it all! π€
