My great-grandparents, Mary Emma (Harris) and Marshall Kleckley, around 1920 after they arrived in Milwaukee, Wi. They both died on April 21 and buried on April 27. Great-grandpa Marshall Kleckley died on April 21, 1942. Nine years later, Ma Kleckley died the same day, 1951! Today, I got the news that my maternal great-incle Dan passed away today. He was my grandmother's younger surviving brother. Most of the family on the Kleckley side of the family have passed, except for the youngest, Aunt Addrienne. One of my fondest memories of him was after discovering a youger photo of Ma and Pa Kleckley after relocating to Milwaukee, Wi from Georgia. I made numerous copies of it, and come to find out, Uncle Dan didn't have any images of his parents. I gifted him a copy of Ma and Pa Kleckley together with individual portraits on his birthday. He said that was the gift he received! He was a gentle giant with a boomibg voice that could shake thr rafters. I will sincerly miss him, but glad that he is not in pain and his suffering is at an end. Love you, Uncle Dan! Albert Wood Dumas, Sr, my paternal great grandfather, was the 2nd black physician in Natchez. Born in Houma, La, was invited to practice medicine in Natchez by John Banks. Albert, Sr and his brother, Henry, were mentioned by name in a letter by Madam CJ Walker (Louisiana native) to her attorney, Francis Freedman, about the welcome the Dumas brothers extended to her, and provided her with lodging because there were no hotels that took in people of color due to segregation.
