Just as he was diving to reach for it, a person blocked his path. He hadn’t meant to scare her or get so close to her, he just hadn’t been looking where he was going. “Oh, I’m sorry!” Xander exclaimed, shaking his head and taking a step back. “I just dropped something and wasn’t paying attention to anything else. I really am sorry.”

it was a mistake to leave the house without a pair of spare glasses. alex only realized this when it was too late. now, as she waited for the new pair of contact lenses to come in , she was left with nothing to help with her vision. she narrowed her eyes and looked out the cafe’s window, trying to make out the blurry shapes of the trees, a bench, and a couple of people walking by. an attempt she soon gave up on after feeling a sudden rush of migraine, probably caused by the excessive straining of her eyes. so she returned her attention to the cafe and the surroundings within the cafe. she only came in her to collect herself, but it didn’t seem to be working well –– suddenly she had felt a presence behind her, making her jump in a surprised manner. she wasn’t usually this fidgety, but with her lack of vision, it seemed like she was on a higher alert. “you almost gave me a heart attack.” she focused her eyes, the figure’s features slowly coming into view.
Nate looked at his phone as he listened to his music with one headphone in, the other dangling. Facebook was boring since it was the same old political shit, and twitter was even worse at the moment.
He sighed as he scrolled through his feed. “God, what’s a guy gotta do to see some funny cat videos on here. Isn’t that what facebook was started for?”
alex raised her eyebrows over at the male, a slight turn of her head to get a better look at the others phone. “i believe that’s what youtube is for now. that’s where most people are finding their entertainment these days. i didn’t know people even still went on facebook.”

“alright,” nate sighed, deciding early this time not to put too much effort into trying to make a quick buck. he could be nice when he wanted to be, after all. “what subject is it? i’m good with math and science, those are no effort. but i barely passed english last year, so if you need help with that i’ll try and find you someone who actually knows what they’re doing.”
“ahh -- nate you’re the best, have i ever told you that ??” she asked, a smirk on her face figuring that she got what she wanted. “it’s math, which is my worst subject. geometry to be specific. numbers and letters just don’t work for me.” she shook her head. “don’t worry. if you need help with anything i’ll help. which probably isn’t the best idea because i’m terrible at everything but i’ll try !!”
sienna glanced in the direction of the other, shaking her head in disbelief. “if only i were in college and not high school. life would be so much easier.” she would have a bit more freedom and could skip if she wanted. “i’ve no idea. i’m not looking for a job right now and i definitely don’t want to attend school, either.” she exhaled. “i’m sure they can do what they want. they run the school. there should be many days for that.”
alex grimaced , “trust me, life is no where near easier once you get into college. it’s a whole lot of studying and a whole lot of overthinking. also, the fact that student loans exist is beyond me.” her sigh left her mouth. shaking her head. “i don’t want to look for a job either but i feel as if it is coming to that point.” she said with a small roll of her eyes. “it’s stupid.”
“I… am going to fucking die before the end of the year.” Isaac mumbled. He looked to the other person sitting across from him. “I know the year just started, but I already know I’m going to die. First class of the day, professor already started teaching, and is expecting us to take a quiz next class. I have one day to study for a test that I don’t even know what its about.” He shook his head. “Enough about my shit, how was your first day of classes?”
“tell me about it, i can’t even think straight with all this information getting thrown at me. it’s the beginning of the school year and i’m already thinking about dropping out.” she shook her head, “that’s horrible. they haven’t taught near enough information on the first day and they’re going to assign a quiz ?? i don’t understand education at all sometimes.” she rolled her eyes slightly. “basically the same, i don’t ever want to return to my classes again.”
“i mean, i could do that. but just because i can doesn’t mean i want to.” in hindsight, maybe telling people he would do ‘just about anything’ if they paid him enough wasn’t the smartest idea. but he did say it, and he really could use the money before school started eating up too much time. “i’m usually more of a mow your lawn and help you move kinda guy, but i’ll tell you what.” he paused to run some numbers in his head. “give me $25 now, and $25 when i’m done, and i’ll do it for you.”
alex’s eyebrows furrowed at his response. “but i wanted help on two homework questions that i can’t figure out.” she looked over at him, staring with her doe eyes. “can you at least lower the price ?? i don’t think two questions are worth $25. i’ll do anything else.” she pleaded, crossing her arms over her chest. “plus, what about those times i’ve helped you out. for free !! i think it might be time to repay that.”

alex hummed, leaning her back on the door frame. “no currently, but i can always pretend so you can pay more attention to me.” she said with a raise of her eyebrows. “i haven’t gotten anything , yet !! i wanted you to come along.”
“i’m writing a song.” elsie whined, hanging upside-down on whatever piece of furniture suited her. still strumming her bass to keep the melody going. “you better be dead, or hemorrhaging, or need a hug, or have food.”
“ahh -- what ??” alex glanced over at the other as she stood in the door way. “but it’s important, i’m important.” she pouted, her bottom lip sticking out ever so slightly. “but what if i need a hug and have food ??”

depending on the topic she’ll easily get bored of long conversations and will change the subject almost instantly. though if she is interested in the subject she’ll talk for hours upon end.
