Tumblr has announced that effective December 17, 2018 they will remove or make private all adult content. They’ve got a system that is very well established with adult content users. To chase all those users away with some idea that a “family friendly” environment will be suddenly embraced by people who are looking for such a platform is mistaken. Tumblr will always be tarnished as the adult content platform that it became known as. It’s like the former porn star who marries the local pastor. She may be virtuous now but nobody will forget her past and many will never fully trust her new morality and may keep their distance for that very reason. Instead they should do what retailers have done for years. If you have a successful & profitable location and you need more space to enhance your product offerings then you keep the existing store and you ADD a second larger one somewhere else. They could easily establish a new virtuous platform with family friendly rules from the outset. They just copy and paste their existing code with a few tweaks here and there to give it a fresh face and a new name and they can have their cake and eat it too. They keep their existing tumblr brand with all it’s established users that are happily doing their “adult content” thing and they start a brand new “family friendly” version that will be pure and clean from day one. I really think they are missing the boat here. Come on Tumblr, rethink this plan before it’s too late.
