* 𝒄𝒍𝒐𝒄𝒌𝒆𝒅 / 𝐎𝐔𝐓 !

          SHE  FINDS  IT  ALMOST  unbelievable  that  she’s  been  cassius’  associate  for  almost  five  years  now  .  it  only  seemed  like  a  year  ago  that  she’d  been  hired  by  the  vampire  .  but  it’s  still  nice  that  her  work  hasn’t  gone  unnoticed  by  him  .  when  he  takes  the  call  ,  she  returns  to  her  office  and  starts  working  on  drafting  up  a  couple  documents  .  she  figures  he’ll  come  get  her  when  he’s  done  .  and  that’s  proven  correct  when  she  looks  up  to  see  her  boss  .  “  yeah  ,  i  could  definitely  use  a  pick  me  up  .  our  usual  ?  or  did  we  wanna  go  somewhere  a  little  further  ?  i  don’t  mind  either  .  ”

          “  FAIR  ENOUGH  .  PAINT  NIGHT  IS  ESSENTIAL  .  ”  with  a  job  as  demanding  as  hers  ,  she  just  needs  a  hobby  or  two  to  just  unwind  .  paint  night  is  that  hobby  for  her  .  and  she  always  appreciates  grayson  being  able  to  join  her  for  it  .  “  speaking  of  andie  ,  is  she  doing  okay  with  all  of  this  ?  it  probably  can’t  be  easy  for  her  to  sit  in  those  meetings  .  ”  and  for  that  ,  alejandra  is  grateful  she  isn’t  the  eldest  member  of  her  family  .  “  i  think  the  worry  is  coming  from  the  fact  that  we’re  getting  absolutely  nowhere  with  it  ,  y’know  ?  ”  she  takes  a  sip  of  her  drink  before  moving  to  sit  on  the  stool  placed  in  front  of  her  easel  .  “  it  doesn’t  help  that  we  feel  even  more  vulnerable  now  than  before  .  ”

          NOSE  CRINKLES  UP  BUT  nonetheless  still  helps  herself  to  a  donut  .  “  i’m  sure  the  kid  can’t  be  that  annoying  ,  ”  ale  chuckles  .  she  delicately  takes  a  bite  of  her  donut  ,  making  sure  not  to  make  a  mess  .  “  although  ,  i  hate  to  be  that  person  but  the  donuts  might  make  him  more  annoying  .  sugar  rush  and  all  that  ,  ”  she  shakes  her  head  .  “  anyways  ,  you  have  any  plans  for  later  today  ?  ”

          HEELS  CLICK  AGAINST  THE  concrete  floors  as  she  makes  her  way  over  to  the  bar  .  while  she  loves  her  job  ,  she’s  secretly  pleased  that  tonight  wasn’t  one  of  those  nights  that  left  her  in  the  office  until  the  early  hours  of  the  morning  .  she  barely  sets  down  her  empty  glass  before  letting  her  attention  turn  to  the  woman  next  to  her  .  “  well  that’s  certainly  one  way  of  letting  someone  know  you’re  not  in  the  mood  to  talk  .  ”  she  flips  her  hair  back  and  turns  to  face  the  bartender  .  “  i’ll  take  another  whiskey  sour  ,  thanks  .  ”

           ALEJANDRA  MERELY  SHRUGS  IN  RESPONSE  .  to  be  honest  ,  she’s  not  bothered  .  there  are  other  things  occupying  her  mind  and  this  tasting  is  supposed  to  at  least  give  her  a  break  .  “  considering  how  he’s  supposed  to  be  serving  us  ,  we’re  already  observing  up  close  .  but  you  do  you  ,  y’know  ?  ”

          “  WELL  WHO  KNOWS  ?  maybe  by  the  end  of  the  night  you’ll  still  be  in  need  of  a  new  year’s  kiss  ,  ”  she  playfully  winks  at  her  friend  .  it’s  all  in  good  fun  !  there’s  nothing  wrong  with  kissing  a  friend  in  ale’s  opinion  .  “  oh  i  know  .  he’s  been  at  pretty  much  EVERY  party  my  family’s  hosted  so  he’s  just  my  go-to  party  pal  since  we’ve  been  kids  ,  ”  she  laughs  ,  shaking  her  head  fondly  .  “  no  hate  to  gabriel  but  isn’t  he  like  that  with  most  places  that  involve  PEOPLE  ?  ”

          “  YOU’RE  WELCOME  .  there’s  a  reason  you  picked  me  to  be  your  associate  ,  right  ?  ”  she  smiles  ,  knowing  that  he  does  mean  it  sincerely  .  “  cassius  ,  you  know  that’s  really  not  necessary  ,  ”  she  insists  .  “  just  your  bid  for  junior  partner  will  be  more  than  enough  ,  ”  ale  half-jokes  in  an  attempt  to  lighten  up  the  mood  .  and  truthfully  ,  cassius  couldn’t  have  been  a  better  mentor  to  her  .  “  yeah  of  course  .  i’m  down  and  i’ll  patch  you  in  right  now  .  ”  walks  over  to  grab  the  phone  on  his  desk  .  she  picks  up  the  handset  and  presses  the  button  flashing  red  .  “  hi  mr.  jones  ,  sorry  to  keep  you  waiting  .  ”  clicks  the  speaker  button  and  sets  the  handset  down  .  “  i  have  cassius  on  the  other  line  .  ”

          “  YOU  COULD  BE  SUPER  busy  at  your  publishing  job  and  have  to  work  the  occasional  late  night  ,  y’know  ?  ”  she  jests  before  taking  a  sip  of  her  drink  .  “  oh  definitely  .  you  and  i  are  probably  more  aware  of  the  implications  of  her  death  than  the  general  population  .  ”  it’s  not  a  good  look  when  one  of  the  oldest  vampires  in  the  city  dies  .  just  like  that  .  “  i’m  doing  as  well  as  i  can  .  it’s  cassius  i’m  worried  about  .  he  took  two  weeks  off  from  work  which  is  definitely  understandable  .  what  about  you  ?  ”

          EYES  LOOK  INQUISITIVELY  AT  her  friend’s  offer  for  donuts  .  “  i  guess  that  depends  .  what  kind  of  donuts  did  you  get  ?  ”  she  takes  a  peek  at  the  box  of  donuts  .  “  and  i  don’t  know  about  three  donuts  .  i’m  not  a  HUGE  sweet  tooth  .  will  it  make  you  feel  better  if  i  took  one  off  your  hands  ?  ”

          TO  PUT  SIMPLY  ,  alejandra  is  tired  of  the  gossip  surrounding  rosamie’s  death  .  the  woman’s  dead  ,  let  the  mourners  mourn  in  peace  .  “  right  .  ”  being  a  human  with  knowledge  of  the  supernatural  puts  her  in  potential  danger  .  and  if  it  weren’t  for  the  council  rules  and  being  part  of  a  founding  family  ,  it’d  be  an  even  bigger  risk  .  with  rosamie  being  brutally  murdered  ,  it  really  puts  into  perspective  on  how  any  of  them  could  be  next  .  “  she  was  more  of  a  friend  of  a  friend  .  so  we  knew  each  other  .  was  an  avid  fan  of  her  designs  .  and  you  ?  i  presume  you  only  knew  of  her  ?  ”

          TRUTHFULLY  ,  ALEJANDRA  DIDN’T  MIND  holding  down  the  fort  with  her  other  colleagues  .  they  understood  what  cassius  is  going  through  .  if  she  were  to  add  a  positive  spin  to  it  ,  it’s  preparation  for  the  day  she  becomes  junior  partner  !  “  only  if  you’re  sure  ,  ”  she  nods  in  understanding  .  “  things  were  ...  going  .  nothing  too  hectic  .  and  nothing  the  team  couldn’t  handle  ,  ”  she  reassures  her  boss  .  “  no  big  emergencies  and  all  the  minor  stuff  i  handled  .  it  didn’t  feel  right  to  bother  you  about  it  when  i  could  just  as  easily  handle  it  myself  .  ”

          SHE  FOLLOWS  THE  GUIDE  ,  pulling  her  phone  out  to  check  her  messages  .  she  figures  it’d  take  a  couple  minutes  before  the  group  reaches  the  tasting  room  .  alejandra  looks  up  when  the  woman  next  to  her  starts  speaking  .  eyes  shift  between  evelyn  and  the  guide  .  “  yeah  ,  i  guess  .  he’s  rather  easy  on  the  eyes  ,  ”  shrugs  .  “  what  are  you  gonna  do  ?  ask  him  to  join  us  for  the  tasting  ?  ”

          “  YOU  SAY  THAT  AS  if  it’s  a  bad  thing  .  ”  she  teases  and  winks  at  zehra  .  “  well  he  is  one  of  my  closest  friend  and  a  party  pal  .  so  basically  ,  one  of  the  FEW  people  i  can  trust  to  have  a  good  time  at  a  party  .  ”  she  can’t  even  begin  to  count  the  amount  of  times  she’s  dragged  grayson  along  to  her  family’s  parties  .  as  everyone’s  said  ,  the  cavanis  know  how  to  party  .  “  oh  ,  gabriel  ?  ”  playfully  waggles  her  brows  .  “  well  hopefully  he’s  being  a  good  date  .  ”

          “  THANKS  FOR  COMING  OVER  ,  ”  alejandra  smiles  at  her  friend  .  with  everything  that’s  happened  ,  a  night  to  decompress  is  exactly  what  they  need  .  she  finishes  garnishing  their  drinks  and  makes  her  way  over  to  the  living  room  .  “  an  old  fashioned  for  you  ,  ”  presents  the  drink  to  grayson  before  moving  to  take  a  seat  .  “  that  was  certainly  one  hell  of  a  way  to  start  the  new  year  .  ”

          SHE  HELPS  HERSELF  TO  A  DRINK  .  while  it  was  a  requirement  for  her  to  show  up  given  how  the  cavanis  were  part  of  the  founding  families  ,  another  was  out  of  support  for  cassius  .  ale  may  not  have  been  close  to  rosamie  but  her  mentor  was  .  “  i  don’t  think  now’s  the  appropriate  time  to  talk  about  it  ,  ”  she  replies  softly  .  gossiping  about  rosamie’s  murder  while  her  memorial  barely  took  place  ?  a  little  distasteful  in  her  opinion  .

          “  OH  I’M  MORE  THAN  SURE  that  someone  or  some-thing  behind  it  .  ”  says  this  with  known  certainty  .  however  ,  alejandra  is  willing  to  be  that  whoever  or  whatever  is  behind  the  swarm  of  dead  crows  likely  won’t  reveal  itself  .  “  it’s  definitely  a  beacon  .  traffic  .  tourists  .  ”  the  supernatural  .  “  i  guess  it  won’t  be  new  york  without  its  crazy  ,  right  ?  ”
