“Oh I’m sure you have; lots of students here are dragons. But I guess you mean in dragon form.” Ciara had only seen a dragon in dragon form once, and it did in fact thoroughly freak her out. Frankly, the only reason she knew dragons even existed before coming here was from all of her mother’s racist remarks about them. “Eh, I’m still not sure about that, to be honest. I’m definitely always curious, but it feels as rude as asking about race. I spent most of my life with my species and humans, so I’m still figuring out the social norms myself.”  The vampire didn’t like to go announcing her species, especially since it is one she and some people here saw as evil, but to break the ice for this apparent freshman, she introduced herself, “Hi, I’m Ciara. And I’m a vampire, by the way.”

          “But they look like normal humans in their non dragon forms. I don’t think I could tell a wix from a dragon to save my life. Hope I never have to.” Although one could say the same for her, since she looked basically the same unless she shifted into her own form. She was trying to learn all the things that it seemed most students already knew. Alastríona understood what it was like to not know the social norms of this world. She was glad she wasn’t the only one. But her reason was likely much different than a lot of other students. Gargoyles seemed to be few and far between so far. She’d only met a few other students like her. “Pleasure to meet you, Ciara,” she said, but her tone wasn’t at all that warm. It’s just how she was in general. “Alastríona and I am a gargoyle.” The only thing she knew about vampires is that the supposed gargoyle queen was mated to one. It felt weird to not be a freshman and still be new here. “I transferred to the school this year from a med school in Ireland.” 

Kam laughed at the expression. “I don’t even know what that means, but I love it.”  They tried to place the accent and dialogue. It was definitely somewhere in the British Isles. “I wonder if they’d even count shite as cussing. Like how arse doesn’t sound as bad as ass, at least to us Americans.” Kam was definitely guilty of having a potty mouth. “They definitely care in other subjects, but for creative writing they prefer you use the best word, not the proper one.” That was something the writer loved about their major, getting to be free to actually express themselves more than follow a rubric.

          “It’s Gaelic,” she explained as if that answered what it meant. “Specifically Gaeilge. That is the Irish one.” Because most people mixed them up. It wasn’t as common to know Gaeilge these days, but both her and Aisling had learned it. “Shite should count as a curse word. I agree though, ass just sounds... well so crass.” Honestly, she didn’t curse that much, despite what people thought. Just when she was trying to make a point. Alastríona laughed. “Yes, I imagine they care if you’re pre-law or pre-med.” Arguing with a patient or client seemed to be a horrible thing to do. “Bein’ creative must be a big draw to your magic then. I do not have a creative bone in me.” 

Sage held the hot tea tightly between her chilly hands. It was too cold up here, especially before the sun came up. She was keeping her head down as she made her way across campus, wanting to get some last minute studying in before the test today. She heard someone yell unintelligibly, and as soon as she looked up some guy rushed past her on the otherwise empty sidewalk. “The hell?” she exclaimed, jumping out of the way. Replying to the yeller as she approached, Sage said, “Yeah, they usually don’t care about personal space, but what did you say to freak him out like that?”

          Alastríona was not one of those people to be nice when she didn’t have to be. Especially when men treated her like crap, she wasn’t going to stand for it. Honestly, if she was better at using her powers, she’d punch him in the face without worrying about damaging a nail. But that was pointless because all it took was yelling at him in a different language to get him to leave her alone. Turning to the stranger who’d walked up on the scene, Alastríona scowled at the boy one more time for good measure. “Sure, it isn’t like I don have a rainbow flag pin on mah bag.” She rolled her eyes. “I told him I’d curse him if he did not leave me alone, but in Gaelic. I think it was the accent, aye.” 

Briana always jogged; it didn’t matter what time of day she did it-it always needed to happen. At times, Briana had so much energy that she needed to exercise and jog more than once a day. But the day had just started and Briana was on a normal-ish schedule as she made her rounds around the running path until she came towards a resting area with benches where someone speaking in a different language caught her attention. A laugh passed when she saw the other boy run away quicker than he had before and Briana turned to look at Ala-stopping her jogging completely, answering her question. “Well, not all of them…But it is early-people are still catching up to normal civil behavior….” She joked with a smile.

          Even back home she had been a morning person. Now it felt like she was just a morning person for the time being since she tended to be awake super early anyways. Although Alastríona had begun adjusting to the later time zone more quickly than she expected. She would always take the opportunity to yell at one of the students who were making her uncomfortable though. That would never change no matter where she was. Yelling in another language was also just a sure fire way to get people to leave her alone, even if she didn’t think that gaelic was honestly that threatening. “I think nearly every boy I’ve ever met has been like that to me.” They all saw a pretty blonde, probably assumed she was stupid. “They’re so annoying.” 

Rosie nodded at least they had the same comprehension and the same idea, 

“Well if you’re interested in sharing the notes the coffee is still up for grabs,” Rosie said with a smile best way to make friends was coffee chats, at least that’s what she was discovering in a college setting.

“I’m Rosie,” She introduced herself softly she figured if she was already completely lost she may as well have a nice conversation that actually interested her

          This whole supernatural thing was still a bit odd to her still. She was trying to make it not seem so weird, but it was. She barely knew how to use her powers yet and it felt weird to be in classes with students that had been using their powers their whole life. 

          “Just have to find some poor sucker that will give up their notes and they’re ours.” She looked around the classroom. There were several people that she probably could get to give her notes. What did the processor have to talk to quickly? Honestly, there were other international students here.

          “Alastríona,” she replied. “Am a transfer. Nice to meet you Rosie.” 

Imogene wasn’t exactly a morning person, which wasn’t exactly to most people, seeing as they were a vampire, but it had nothing to do with their being a vampire and everything thing to do with them spending most of their nights with their nose buried in some sort of historical text until the wee hours of the morning. But they needed to observe the sunrise and the early morning light for their art project, so here they were. “Are all the boys like what, exactly?” Admittedly, they hadn’t been paying too much attention to what was going on around them, engrossed as they were in their project. “Although I will say that generally they can be a bit idiotic. Or at least the loud ones are. Something about being in college.”

          As much as she absolutely did not want to be away from her family, this whole being a supernatural thing was a bit interesting. Well as long as people left her alone and didn’t stare at her like she was the biggest foreigner in this school. She was probably not the only person on this campus who was far from home, since this was an island of wix or whatever. Alastríona looked back in the direction the boy ran. “Staring and shite.” She assumed that they were just staring because she was pretty, but maybe it was the whole speaking a different language. “Well he’s barkin’ up the wrong tree, mate.” She truly felt like she was not supposed to be here. 

As a vampire, Ciara didn’t have much trouble staying up late or waking up at odd hours. She definitely preferred to follow the sun’s schedule, but it wasn’t as biologically ingrained as for humans. So, it wasn’t too big of a hassle to head to the science building very early to check on her time-sensitive samples. As she approached the building, she noticed with interest someone talking on the phone in an unfamiliar language. Following their gaze as they yelled, Ciara saw some guy run like he’d been caught stealing. “No, that’s definitely on him. In a place with literal dragons, I wouldn’t think a foreign language would be so surprising.”

          She was not used to being up so early, but Alastríona couldn’t help still not being used to this whole new timezone thing. Maybe one day it would be easier; she expected it would take longer than a week. The blonde couldn’t help glaring at the boy as he ran off. Hopefully it was that she was speaking a different language and not because she was pretty. Alastríona looked at the science building with a sigh. “Aye,” she said with a nod. Alastríona had heard there were dragons here, but she had yet to see them. “I ‘ave never seen a dragon before. Is it rude to ask someone’s species?” 

Kam chewed the end of their pencil, deep in thought. What was that damn word? Their character was being sarcastic and rude about something serious. It killed Kam that they knew people had called them this but they couldn’t think of it. They turned to the person sitting at the next cafeteria table. “Hey, what’s that word for when someone is being a sarcastic shit? But like, specifically when they make a comment on something?”

          As much as she had been looking forward to a supernatural school, Alastríona already didn’t like her classes. Things were weird in America. Maybe she just needed time to get used to this place. Katmere and America. She blinked realizing that someone had spoken to her. Pushing her blonde hair behind her ear, she turned to the stranger. “I have absolutely no idea,” Alastríona shrugged. While English was her first language, she tended to communicate in Gaeilge at home, since she and her sister had learned that at the same time. “Are ye not allowed to say sarcastic beag shite? I doubt the uni professors will care if ye curse in a paper.”

“Do you have any idea what he just said?” Rosie asked poking the person next to her gently with their pen, she’d gotten distracted in the lecture by the lecturers necklace, even from here she could see that the gold was fake and the gemstone, while beautiful was definitely man made sapphire. Rosie herself had always thought that Sapphires went better with silver anyway and- well she was doing it again spacing out as she shook the thoughts from her head

“I’m sorry can you repeat that? or could I copy your notes after class? I’ll buy you coffee as a thank you.” 

          Everyone in this country spoke way too quickly and she was still trying to get used to the different accents. Some of these people spoke so slowly that by the time they were finished, she was bored. And then there were some that spoke with such a thick accent that she couldn’t understand what they were saying at all. Half the time she was asking people for notes herself. Today probably would be no different, when the professor was finished with class, she’d just have to go up and ask them. Alastríona furrowed her brow as he just kept talking.

          Alastríona hated the time difference between Dublin and Katmere. Her sister was nine hours ahead of her, which meant that she could only call at certain hours or Aisling and her parents would still be asleep. It was why she was awake at an almost ungodly hour to call her sister before it got too late in the evening. Speaking in Gaelic, the gargoyle watched a boy staring intently at her as she spoke. Alastríona looked at the boy, yelled at him in Gaelic, and watched him flee. “Are all the boys around here like that or is it just me?” she asked, switching to English, as she spotted someone else.
