You just never know and it’d be a little fucked up to deny giving advice to a student that needed it. I don’t think so either. I’m Alec, short for Alexander but I prefer Alec. It’s nice to meet you, Cece. 

Exactly! But my friend, who also teaches at the high school, just told me I probably shouldn’t. She thinks it might be me he has a crush on, which I think is just crazy. Still, she was very pushy about it, so I guess there goes that for him.

I mean, there is always that possibility but there also is that chance he’s not and then you’re hurting the poor dudes feelings. I say give him the advice, leave the door open just in case and if it is about you then politely decline him and tell him he should leave. 

Exactly, there are some total sweet guys at the school and people always judge them just because they like… are in a frat or something. Hmm okay so, this one time in high school, my best friend and I went to the mall and we had a contest to see who could steal the most amount of clothes by the end of the day. I promise I haven’t done it since, I mean I work in retail now. But at the time, i think we got away with like… at least $500 worth of stuff.

Well that’s like, super sweet of you. But I can definitely do dinner in exchange for a phone.

Yeah, just like my sisters boyfriend. Oh wow, glad you didn’t get caught. I’m sure you’d either be in jail or your dad would have murdered you. I don’t think I’ve ever done anything that crazy cause I actually don’t really do crazy things. I’m actually a very boring guy, just ask Jesse. In like 9th grade this girl I was crushing on dropped something in the lake that was under the bridge we were walking on and she was so upset about it. Me, being 14 and dumb, felt like playing the hero and actually jumped into the water to get it for her, and it wasn’t exactly a small jump either. I ended up really hurting my head against something. 14 year old me was more embarrassed in front of her than caring about my possible head injury. I think I hit it on a giant rock. I didn’t get the thing and the girl never wanted to date me, it was quite sad for little freshman me. 

You know not every boy that comes into the house is a total pig, there are a lot of respectable boyfriends. Hey, no way! It doesn’t work that way, we both have to agree or nothing. I’m not giving without getting anything out of it. 

Wait, you’d buy me a phone? Like, for real? What would you want in return?

Okay, I’ll give you that. It’s wrong of me to judge all the guys at our school since there are some decent ones. A lot are pigs though. Okay, I’ll tell you one for sure if you tell me one. 

Yeah, sure. Dinner? A crisp high five? Your choice. I’m just happy to help out a friend in need. 

You know you’re like the complete opposite of most boys on campus. They’re like dying to get past our white doors. Oh definitely not. I mean, we argue, but my father can be scary intense when he’s mad. It’s a lot easier to just try to get around that. Ugh, boring. I’ll share some of my own. I could totally do that. I mean, I’ll need to use a card to buy the phone that he doesn’t have account information for, but that’s totally doable.

Maybe it’s cause my sister lives in that house or just cause I’m not a total pig, either one of those. Good thinking, scary fathers are the worst. Okay, tell me some of yours and I’ll contemplate telling you some of mine. If it’d help you out, I will totally buy you a spare phone so your dad leaves you alone.

Hey, you said it yourself, we’re sorority girls. We don’t need to talk about things to keep guys around, especially when we’re in the house. Don’t apologize, you’re totally right. It’s creepy and overbearing. Ooh, pause. Story time. What kind of crazy stuff have you gotten up to? Honestly? Probably. My family is very intense.

True, being in a sorority house is a headache. I don’t go around there a lot, only when Amelia and I have the occasional Sunday brunch. Have you ever stood up to him? You gotta be level 5 friendship to get those stories, sorry. That is extremely intense and my suggestion is get a second phone to bring out with you places and keep the one with locations on at the house and take to classes with you. 

OKAY, SO I NEED YOUR ADVICE — there’s a boy in my music class who, ever since i started working there, has been really — fudge, what’s the word — diligent !  yeah, he’s been really diligent with his schoolwork, like he’s always the first one in and the last to leave. anyway, so he came to me for advice because a ton of girls in school like him, but he likes this other girl who’s apparently out of his league. he says he plans to take her out to dinner and sing her a song he wrote. he wouldn’t let me hear it yet which i thought was totally uncool but whatever. plus i think he has a cute little horror movie date planned because he kept mentioning to me that he just turned eighteen and his parents are gonna be out of town. anyway, i think it’s really sweet. i should tell him to go for it, right ? 

I think you should definitely tell him to go for it. You only live once, right?

Exactly. Boys, my new nail polish color, if we should cut our hair. You know, the important stuff. Oh so you got your mom and she got your dad, is what you’re saying? It’s the most annoying. And he’s kinda got spies all over our home town. Plus my sister likes to rat me out whenever she finds out something he might disapprove of, so. And no tracker in my phone, he does make me share my location with him though.

Aka stuff that would make any guy yawn and want to peace out of the conversation. Pretty much. That’s really creepy and overbearing, I’m sorry. This kinda makes me glad Amelia and I aren’t close enough to our parents to rat each other out over shit. I’m sure both of us have done things that’d make us lose our inheritance. But like, would you get in trouble if you, a grown adult, didn’t share your location with him?

Well duh, we’re friends but we don’t talk about our parents all that much when we’re together. Plus, I know what they’re like to her but not really how they are with you. Or is it pretty much the same? He’s just super overbearing and it’s exhausting. In my junior year of high school I had to tell him I was studying with a tutor after school but I was really just meeting a cute boy in the library so it would look like we were studying. And he still found out!

Makes sense, probably talk about boys or whatever you sorority girls usually talk about. My mom isn’t as hard on me and I get along pretty well with her. My dad is too busy working and paying attention to Amelia so eh, not really. I can imagine that being annoying. How did he find that out? Did he put like a tracker thing on your phone? I’ve heard some parents do that. 

What makes them suck so badly? He’s definitely the definition of a lot. Like if you look up dramatic in the dictionary you’d see a picture of my dad. Yeah, but if he flies here then he’s here for like a week. It’s never a short visit. 

I’m sure you already know, you’re friends with my sister aren’t you? Do you two get along? Or is he just overbearing and you can’t stand him? 

He would’ve called me back and it would’ve been super loud and he’d start off with “REBECCA MOORE HOW DARE YOU HANG UP ON ME!” and then if I tried it again he’d either call my sister to come find me. Or, if he was feeling really dramatic, I wouldn’t put it past him to get on the next flight. My dad is… a lot.

Damn, and I thought my parents sucked. He sounds like a lot, sorry. At least he’s far enough away where flying has to happen. Saves you a lot of the pain of dealing with him.

Honestly, my dad is just getting more and more pathetic day after day. I just got off a three hour long skype session with him. Do you know how much of that call was dead air? At least like… 75% percent of it. I know he’s totally trying to keep me inside and away from any frat parties tonight, but lucky for me they never start earlier than 11, anyway. Nice try dad, but you still lost.

What would he have done if you just hung up the call? 

Oliver: Get with the times, Al. It's a saying.

Oliver: I've been called Daddy before. 😉

Alec: Dumb saying

Oliver: How not very.

Oliver: I'll get fined.

Oliver: If they fined out.

Oliver: I'm sorry.

Alec: Not very what?

[ PRIVATE ] Ouch. That almost hurt, but then, at the very least one of us is getting laid, yeah? Speaking of, how’s your right hand doing? Last I heard, you two were still going strong. 

[Private] Yeah, except I am too busy trying to work towards an ivy league law school where getting laid just isn’t a thought like you. And my right hand is doing great, thanks for asking. 

Oliver: A lawyer breaking the law. Care to give me an exclusive before you get put in the bighouse?

Oliver: Taking the high road always leads me to a cliff. And we all know how bad things get when I jump head first.

Alec: I’m not breaking any laws. I’m a good law abiding citizen.
