Raw or undercooked egg yolks pose a risk of Salmonella infection because bacteria can be present inside uncracked, whole eggs. While the risk is relatively low, consuming raw yolks can cause severe food poisoning, particularly in vulnerable groups like children, the elderly, and pregnant women.
