For me it started with Kakashi (Naruto)

whose face was teased for the entirety of the series but it was thankfully revealed after a couple hundreds of episodes

Then it continued with Gin (Hotarubi no Mori e)

because I guess Japanese masks are popular

Then it continued with Shin-ah (Yona of the Dawn)

because the most beautiful character in the series cannot show his face, of course

And now Kimetsu no Yaiba came with Sabito

whose face you see, like, once

And then it introduced the most serious case of this phenomenon - Inosuke

So I’m gonna start up my Duolingo again, give it a real shot, cause yes, I don’t want to be the white girl who learn a few words of another language and gets praised for how worldly and accepting she is while native speakers are oppressed.

anyway, it didn’t even occur to me that some people might think of this as a bad or problematic thing, but wow the comments on this post are wild. so i’m gonna add in my take on it okay?

anyone who wants to learn, just fuckin go for it. fuck this whole purist attitude some people seem to have. culture is meant to be shared! it’s not supposed to be hidden away! i’ve been told all my life to share my culture with whoever will listen, especially if it’s with someone not native.

so absolutely learn the language if that’s something you want to do!!! and why stop there? dive headfirst into the rest of the culture if you want! i promise it’s interesting! learn our traditions and our history and how we almost went extinct. and then tell everyone you know. tell everyone what really happened and how the little paragraph we get in your history books is full of lies and half-truths.
