she is an asshole (with a heart of gold)
she murdered kilgrave, a mind-controller who had kidnapped her for eight months and repeatedly assaulted her.
she also murdered a prison guard, dale holiday in self-defense after she broke into his house and discovered that he was murdering inmates
she was forced to kill reva connors while under kilgrave's mind control
she is not proud of any of this, and in fact, pretty much hates herself for all of it.
she has not been charged for any of these crimes, no one knows about dale or reva, but when she killed kilgrave it did make the news. however, she was let off due to a mind control defense.
her family was killed in a car accident that she thinks is her fault
except for her mother, who survived through the same experimental treatment that gave jessica her powers. while they both gained superstrength, her mother alisa also experienced traumatic side effects like uncontrollable rage. jessica didn't find out about her mother until many many years later, as an adult. her mother was then killed by her adopted sister Trish Walker
trish and dorothy walker adopted jessica when she was 15 after her family's car accident. trish and jessica took a while to get used to each other, but soon became as close as actual sisters, especially in the wake of dorothy's abuse. jessica protected trish, and trish was jessica's emotional guide.
trish however grew jealous of jessica's powers after they worked together to stop kilgrave. she became obsessed with getting powers of her own, through drugs and dangerous experiments. jessica tried to stop her, but that led to a rift between them
things devolved between the two sisters, especially once trish did get some powers. she began killing people and jessica tried to stop her, help her. but trish tried to kill her, and jessica had no choice but to turn her over to shield and send her to the raft
where she's at now:
