god damn it i have to press the answer call button for this

i hate VoIP landlines...

so yeah, as a user of a NORMAL touch tone landline (via analog telephone adapter) this baffled me for a minute. imagine picking up the phone and having to press another button to answer. why can't things be simple lol.

AUTISM RANT:

this is the same vibe as me a few days ago picking up my family's Vtech VoIP handset and being confused as to why there wasn't a dial tone...

i am 18... why can't i understand these VoIP phones!? they are so complicated... and ever since i got a 1986 Nortel desk phone a few months ago, i have simply forgotten how to use newer cordless and VoIP handsets.

also, my family's new Vtech phones come with a weird "smart call screening" system which does weird things to my analog receiver on the same line. if the person calling my number isn't a known contact, their call goes ring voltage for about 3 seconds before the "smart call filter" answers the call and makes my analog phone stop ringing (this is all while the VoIP phones haven't audibly rung at all)

The call is forwarded to a answering machine -esque voice asking the caller to leave their name, and if the caller speaks, the VoIP phone starts audibly ringing (the circuit is still off-hook, no ring voltage) and if nobody in the house picks up, it ends the call.

this system makes some amount of sense on paper but it is annoying because my analog phone only rings for a second before not ringing again. takes some getting used to i guess
