This is Nekome Kozou (猫目小僧), the main character of a manga from 1967 of the same name. He is the son of a nekomata, but because he appeared too human at birth, other youkai urged his father to kill him. Unable to go through with it, his father instead abandoned him. Since then Nekome Kozou travels alone and gets involved in various incidents caused by other youkai, and as a result helps people sometimes.

I made him in Tomodachi Life because I found the animation version and found it peculiar (I'll leave a gif bellow so you see what I mean! It's made with paper figures),

I stated reading the manga and I feel it's more horror focused than the animation . Haven't finished yet but it's an interesting find!

Some years ago, every night before I fell asleep, I used to close my eyes and see myself holding a paper lantern, wearing a kimono. I would turn around, and a creature would be there. They'd talk, but I wouldn't understand a word, even so, I felt I knew where to take them. I'd walk and walk in the night, feeling the soil hit my sandals while looking at the trees in the dark, until I finally reached somewhere, then I'd say goodbye and wake up.

I may have confused my akadenchu kin with kasa sashi tanuki. Both are prankster tanuki so it was easy to miss.

Kasa sashi tanuki (傘差し狸) is a tanuki known for shapeshifting into a human holding an umbrella and inviting people without one to share it with them. Taking the human to another location once they get under the umbrella is their most known prank. It can be a scary, unusual or marvelous place.

Shrine / environment:

- Mountain forest setting

- Shrine with multiple torii (red and at least one of stone)

- Straight stone staircase + alternate sloped path with stone wall

- Kaguraden

- Smaller sub-shrines and stone figures

- Mossy graves nearby

- Area with tiny shrines

Akadenchu (赤殿中) is a tanuki known for wearing a red haori. They often ask to be given a piggyback. They're a kind youkai that may play light pranks.
