Sat down with Dr. Joe and went through our table of contents with referring to the exegesis outline that Dr. Tim emailed previously. Just clarified in terms of deliverables that I need to include in the paper.

We also finalized and edited the abstract part together.

Have made adjustments to Chapter 2 and working on the idea flow for Chapter 3. Sent chapter 1 for the first round of grammar and tense check before sending Chapter 1 & 2 to Dr. Joe to do his assessment.

By the end of this week will need to submit Intro,Chap 1,2,3 for him to look through~

Electronic Music Wk 8 

Team up with Jeff,Guna and Dion(Year 1). We were given a brief of architecture. So our team decided to work with that theme and came up with the concept of brutalism. Where only raw and angular sounds should be generated. Similar to the building blocks of a building, our sounds are like small building blocks coming together to build something bigger than us.

Was refreshing working with one word and looking at how far we could stretch the sonic quality of our sounds.

First performance with the year one! We’re going with abstract making use of the sounds that we have and trying to blend the sounds together.

This is the set up before I found that I didn't have enough cables to run. Cause the initial idea was to run through an ethnic song and do it live manipulation to explore the different variations from one original source.

Did visuals for the team and did mostly static noise and manipulating them by adding colours and variations. Brian did meniton 2 glitch softwares to look into.

4. Exegesis

Review on the comments given by Dr. Tim based on the previous Research Proposal Outline.

Make the necessary edits in getting a clearer understanding of the focus for my exegesis.

Also need to work on my grammer~ Gosh...

Had my first consultation regarding the topic I would like to go in depth in. So , unlike the normal dissertation or essay I’ve written that is based on. This time round, I would be doing an Exegesis, a practice based research. I kinda have the idea on the topic I would like to work on but have yet to narrow down to which aspect I would like to argue on. During the consultation, sat own with Dr. Joe to go through the requirements needed before I made the template and the outline. So here is the information I’ve gathered based on the template requirements:

What is the purpose of the topic chosen?

Come up with questions then answer them and why is there a problem? From there pick out the 2 most important issues and address them. (this would take out the content of the essay outline.

Outline is just stating the chapters

Online academic journal website such as jstore. During my search,would have to be as specific as possible.

A limited amount of research in the area. For my advantage, help in building local subject matters. The usage of academic language such as gestures,vernacular, the academy , canon 

Provide 2-3 academic journal. Address my subject on how that it's an advantage for a local to write about local issues.

Week 4.

Made a trip down to City music to visit my FYP final outcome, the Pa600SG Korg Keyboard. Am honoured to be able to loan this out to be used for SSEAYP cultural performance. This would be a great addition to showcasing Singapore’s rich & diverse multi-ethnic society. From the track, they comprise of music styles or popular rhythms used for each ethnic group Chinese, Malay and Indian.

Dissertation Week 3

This week Tim went through the difference between ‘Exergesis’ & ‘Dissertation’. So in layman’s term, an exegesis means writing about a process/practice that the artist would like to embark on. this would be about 4000 words accompanied with a CD/ form of documentation of the practise process. The number of books for reference would only have to be 2/3 books.

Questions to ponder about:

What am I finding out?

What can I get out from this collaboration?

How does it make me do things differently?

The dissertation doesn't require any form of practice that would usually be 6-8000 words.
