Rediscovery, Inspiration & the Big Sur
I travel for inspiration, for rejuvenation and rediscovery.
An old friend and I recently drove down to beautiful Big Sur from LA. We travel together, at least once a year, to bond and ground ourselves, to remember why we do the things we do. We drove through small towns, villages and beaches, through Pismo Beach, Carmel and Cambria. We lunched at the fabulous Post Ranch Inn, and stayed a night in Santa Barbara, before arriving at Big Sur with its magnificent views of the mountains and the Pacific Ocean. Â
The workshop, hosted by Berkeleyâs The Good Science Center, an institute that delves into the science of a âmeaningful lifeâ, was about awe. Awe inspires happiness, we discovered. When we are in awe, particularly of the beauty of nature, we are not just humbled, but also filled with a kind of pure joy. We feel small in the face of the awesome and ecstatic at the same time.
We spent the weekend in the shadows of the Santa Lucia Mountains, immersing ourselves in awe and in the incredible hot springs, and we took some Aish scarves along for the journey!
