Episode 8 — The Wish Pieces and The Princess Glow
Awake and sober (I caught a fever), I got my mind blown now that I could fully process the HUGE, MASSIVE LORE DROP WE GOT. Thank you, Yana-sensei.
Now, now. In Chapter 22 and 23, we get a bit of an explanation from Professor Trein about the known as Wish Pieces.
Firstly, a little comedic relief of Vargas fighting with Lucius (yes, Lucius the cat, who actually won the fight and helps us find out by Crewel and Crowley comments that it's a recurrent happening); then the situation turns serious when the teachers decide it's time to discuss about what happened in Diasomnia.
Here is where Trein and Crewel bring up the subject of Silver's Ring.
Crewel: So, what's the deal about Silver's Ring?
Trein: I think, that Ring was used as if it were a "Wish Piece".
Sam: I heard it had a dope magical stone embedded, but it shattered into pieces.
Now, all of you might wonder 'what are the Wish Pieces?'. Clever as ever, we are explained immediately by Trein. This actually brings up more Disney lore since we know which are the original Wish Pieces from the tales of the Great Seven (at least, some of them tho).
Trein: A being that resonates with powerful wishes, from which miracles are born… That's a Wish Piece.
Emerging at turning moments in history, they are said to be able to save nations through a miracle... or even alter the fate of the world.
They take many forms. "The Magic Lamp", "The Glass Slipper", "The Rose of Love" are counted among them.
And if you too, lived in this Twisted Wonderland, you would likely see it the same way.
Yes, I had to read it like 3 times to realise Trein actually broke the fourth wall. Now, we come next with the part where Vargas tell us the tale of one of the objects mentioned above: the Rose of Love. Which sort of confirms us the lore theory that he lives in the small town where Belle came from.
Vargas: An arrogant prince was once cursed by a witch and transformed into a beast.
Unless he found true love before the last petal of the ‘Rose of Love’ given by the witch fell, he would remain a beast forever!
It's pathetic to think such a fate rests on a single flower.
Ah! I know the ‘Rose of Love’ pretty well. The tale has been passed down in my homeland since its earliest days.
Then, Crowley and Trein explain how the curse was broken and the long-vanished castle reappeared, the kingdom came to prosper and the nation was saved.
Next, Sam explains a bit of 'The Glass Slipper' legend, tracing its origins back to Pyroxene. Trein then proceeds to tell the tale of the young Queen who reformed the land, making life fair for commoners since she knew first-hand how they lived, embracing the people and making the kingdom prosper to become what it was today.
Then, we get into the important matter. The origins of Silver's Ring and its tie to Malleus' magic and the Valley of Thorns itself.
Trein: Since researching “The Glass Slipper” for my graduation thesis, I have continued my research on Wish Pieces.
[......]
Trein: And this time... I was able to witness Vanrouge's resurrection.
For one whose life was lost, to be brought back. It is a phenomenon where magic is born... a beautiful miracle.
Yet the ring that made this miracle possible was shattered, its power got lost.
He speaks a bit about his experience and knowledge about them (my man was so sad he couldn't study the ring himself hahaha), including some comments from Sam who is apparently versed in that kind of magic. Then, after Crowley reveals the findings regarding Lilia's revival were sent to the Sage's Island Safety Management Committee (of course, courtesy of S.T.Y.X.), we see more about what Trein knows so far.
Trein: The origin of the stone embedded in the ring was traced to the Thunderclap Mountains, a region that once was part of the territory of the Valley of Thorns.
A similar stone was found among the royal collection of magic stones borrowed from the Valley of Thorns for investigation, allowing its origin to be identified.
Upon receiving these findings, I became intrigued by the royal collection of magic stones, so I requested detailed documentation...
They are recorded as “Stones to perform miracles”. Which are capable of dramatically enhancing the caster's magic and even curing incurable diseases.
In the Valley of Thorns, there existed a massive magic stone called ‘Princess Glow'.
Its origin, crystal structure and properties were all strikingly similar.
If a small stone was able to perform a miracle powerful enough to revive Vanrouge. Then...
What kind of miracle could Princess Glow, many times larger, possibly perform?
The result revealed a highly intriguing fact.
Trein: The trail ends… with the last record stating it adorned Queen Meleanor's scepter. Its whereabouts have been lost ever since.
Records show it fell into the hands of the Sword Kingdom 400 years ago… but its subsequent path remains untraceable.
[......]
Trein: That is precisely why I have been requesting ancient manuscripts from various nations, tracing the trail of Princess Glow.
Crewel: A colossal magic stone said to bring about miracles, lost to the darkness of history…… Certainly an enticing subject.
Trein: Should it be found, it would become an event etched into the annals of the history of magic.
Crowley: Oh my... How fascinating! I simply adore stories about glittery things!
Trein: Now the Royal Sword Academy, which kept rejecting my applications, would surely regret it. And… as a key figure behind this historic discovery, my name will be remembered for generations to come. In academic papers and textbooks alike.
Crewel: Being this fired up is all well and good, but we’re heading into a busy stretch towards the end of term. And I would rather not deal with any further staff shortages.
Here, we head to the first plot twist of Episode 8.
Trein: Four hundred years ago, after the defeat of the Land of Thorns, Princess Glow fell into the hands of the Sword Kingdom...
That much is recorded in the archives of the Valley of Thorns... However, what happened next is the problem.
The diary of one of Queen Leah's maid, who escaped from the Sword Kingdom to the Pyroxene!
A cup embedded with a large gemstone, fitted with handles and a base. A cup... Ambrose... Wait, this can't be... surely not!?
Then we have him barge in Crowley's office, who was gonna scold whoever had the nerve and got scared as fuck when he noticed who was, out of everyone.
Trein: Headmaster! Please show me the photographs from last year’s Inter-Academy Tournament awards ceremony!!
I believe I may have uncovered the whereabouts of Princess Glow!
Please, the awards ceremony photographs!
Crowley: I do have photographs from the awards ceremony, but our academy was on the losing side, you know.
Um… if I recall correctly, they should be right here...
Trein: The Inter-Academy Tournament championship cup, currently owned by the Royal Sword Academy.
The stone set into the base of this very chalice is precisely...
And apparently, that is not the only magical gemstone the cup has embedded on it.
So, what's you take on this? I'd love to read your theories. Although, taking on account Ambrose's attitude towards Crowley, he might actually be cheating for RSA to win.
(And, for the Seven's sake, I already had a crush on Trein before he opened his mouth but is worse now. He's so damn ducking smart... I'm in love)
