It’s almost time for april, so it’s almost time to draw something every day!

To join you simply draw something every day, and then you post it online, preferably the same day. There’s this official tumblr, but you are free to post your art anywhere else you like too!

You can post in the tags #april drawing challenge, and #drawpril, or you can submit your work to our official tumblr!

Are there prompts or challenges provided? Yes, there are! They are posted every day a bit past midnight CEST, so everyone has enough time to consider them. However, you don’t need to follow the prompts! You can make your own challenge list, follow a prompt list you found online a couple months ago, or take suggestions from friends, anything and everything!

Is it bad if I miss a day? No, of course not! Sometimes real life just gets in the way, so don’t be upset at yourself. You can catch up if you want, or you can leave it be. The only real reason this challenge exists is to motivate you to draw, and to get you to share your art with people online. (It’s not that scary I promise!)

Do I really have to react to other people’s art? Of course I can’t make you do anything, but you know that feeling when someone tells you something nice about your art? Yeah, we want to spread the good vibes around.

It’s here! After a year and a half of hard work, we are both so excited to finally share our film with you. Thank you all for your support and encouragement - this film means the world to us, and your kindness and enthusiasm has made this journey all the more meaningful. It is our great pleasure to share with you this labor of love, and we hope with all our hearts that you enjoy watching it as much as we did making it.

When I was in college there was this ongoing competitive mindset from the teachers /students that: “If you’re not drawing all night / getting 1 - 2 hours of sleep, you’re going to fall behind.” If you’re an artist you’ve probably met this kind of thinking… I’ve heard it from so many pros / tutorials.

One of my professors said that line all the time. I loved this dude. he worked at Disney on many of my favorite movies, and my young self became absorbed in this mindset. About 3 years into my degree that professor had a stroke, and when he went to the doctor they said he actually previously had something like 10+ strokes without even knowing, brought on by stress, and that he needed to slow down. 

Since then I’ve heard tons of other accounts of sickness and divorce brought on from addiction to work.

A few years later I was listening to an Animation podcast interviewing Glen Keane. He brought up that there were other animators who would live and breathe their work, never going home, barely sleeping, etc. 

What shocked me was that Glen Keane said something like “I ignored this idea, and decided to go home every night to spend time with my family, because I could learn just as much from my life experiences with them.” 

Anyway I just wanted to take a second after hearing a statement like this again recently and let any young artists out there know that:

Artists and creatives, take care of yourself.  A life of sleep deprivation can lead to illness and early death.  If your body is suffering your creative life will suffer too. 

I have reason to believe that someone is going around into other people’s accounts and sending them messages on IM with fake links. 

This happened to me just now. I thought it was suspicious after seeing the tinyurl link, but I clicked it anyway and it brought me here:

Whatever you do, DO NOT LOG IN. Take a closer look at the URL at the top.

This is a scam. It’s a website made to look like tumblr’s home page, and it will steal your information and hack you right out of your account.

My guess is that this has already happened to tumblr user @turntableking and their account is being used to drag more people in.
