August | Summer
August
As I packed up my room to move into my dorm at Howard University. I had a trip lined up to Massachusettes. My family and I traveled to Marthaâs Vineyard with all my cousins, aunts, and uncles. I rented a bike and rode around. One thing Iâm really proud of is, my aunt Natalie & Nandi, my dad and I rode 11 miles to South beach. My butt was hurting for days, but it felt good. Sadly I had to leave early to move in, but it was exciting nonetheless.
I hopped on a flight to Dc and packed up my dadâs truck and moved into my dorm.
Now Iâm starting a whole new journey at Howard University as a Freshman, Marketing Major.
Summer
This summer has been a blessing! Thanks for reading my long journey this summer
Stay Tuned For Whatâs To Come
JULY
July
For my internshipâs last project we decide to do an OPEN MIC TOUR of Busboys and Poets, with the theme of âWhat is your sanctuary.â Our band name was and still is âCosmic Relief.â Anju Madhok (my coworker) wrote a song named Honey, and I wrote a song named Unravel and we both performed the two songs with accompaniment from Marissa Benson who read a poem and danced, Chris Harris who played the Cajon (a box thingy that is used as a drum-type instrument), and Vy Vu who painted an amazing painting as our backdrop.
As we planned, so many amazing blessings fell into my lap. The Art Munks which is a group of musicians who are apart of the Sanctuaries asked for Anju and I to help write a song with them and also perform with them at an event on July 18th.  SO THAT HAPPENED. I co-wrote a song and performed with them which was amazing.
SideBar <> I went to ART TECH HOUSE on 4th of July with my best friend and took pretty cute pictures.
Sidebar <>The week before the performance my family and I traveled to Disney World in Florida. We went to the Magic Kingdom and Animal kingdom.
That following Saturday after my performance with the Art Munks my best friend and I randomly went to Rehoboth beach and Ocean City for a weekend.
Then BOOM the intern open mic tour began.
July 24th #1 tour date at Busboys and Poets on Monroe street. It went beyond what I could imagine. We toured 3 Busboys and Poets and lit the stage on fire!
Definitely checked that off my goals list.
<Sidebar> went to the Ari Lennox & Wale concert to support Rachelaâs Brother who plays piano for Ari.

Next stop was Washington D.C
When returning back to the states, I had an internship awaiting. My internship was with a non-profit organization named The Sanctuaries. The Sanctuaries is a sacred arts community, that gives artists a platform to use their talent to fight for social change.
I started my job the day after I came back from South Africa, which was so stupid of me; but I made it.
I started out meeting 4 other interns and my boss. Anju Madhok, Chris Harris, Marisa Benson, Vy Vu, and my wonderful boss Reverend Erik Martinez Resly. We had 4 projects to do, but the best part of the internship wasnât the projects; it was the relationships that I began building with my co-workers and the members of the organization. Everyone was just so amazing, talented and open to everyone and everything. This organization is very rare and attracts the best people.
As our last project, we were given the task to collectively create a project. It could be anything! We took the summer and thought up a great idea that youâll see in JulyâŚ
<SideBar> I celebrated my Best Friend, Rachelaâs 18th birthday by going to Ultra Bar and having her Debut party.

Third Stop Was South Africa
Sat down on another super duper long flight on a voyage to Johannesburg, South Africa. Â
We make it to the illustrious South Africa and meet up with my aunties Husband, Rubani. On our way to the hotel, I noticed a lot of construction around the entire area we were passing. We stayed at the Michelangelo Hotel, which was so grand and lush.
The next day we had a private tour around Johannesburg. We learned of the current and past state of South Africa, which is similar to Americaâs history. The Apartheid ended in 1994, which was only 23 years ago. You could see the divide between white and blacks and inevitably meant the divide between the rich and the poor.
While passing through the slums we were told that they still didnât have plumbing systems. They still didnât have a great water distribution system. They still didnât have a garbage removal service. Trash just piled and piled.
It was just crazy to see. In America, you see hate, racism, and large gaps between the rich and poor, but it was very different In Johannesburg. The inhumane ways people are forced to live to this day is seen and there has been little progress. Itâs scary to see everything at face value rather than having to search and get different peopleâs opinions on the matter. In America, you kind of have to force people to understand what it is that you go through day to day, but in South Africa, you cannot hide from the harsh realities much like many Americans can. Â
After Johannesburg, we traveled to the beautiful Capetown, where water stretched the town. Boats, people, music, and twinkling lights. It was a drastic change from Johannesburg. Capetown is literally Europe with a sprinkle of Africa. Isnât that insane.
