Logic Gates and Combiners headcannon bc
Logic gates use 1’s and 0’s to represent on and off basically, and different types of logic gates process diffrent combinations of 1’s and 0’s (also refered to as Logic 1 and Logic 0) to get an output.
My hc is that it varies from combiner to combiner whether they use an AND gate or an OR gate or a NOT gate. I’ll get to each type as I talk about which one I associate with each combiner. And It also applies a rule for them to follow, bc I love giant powerful robots, but I love them more when they have to work with, and around rules and limitation. None of this applies to canon, what’s research?
1) AND GATES: AERIALBOTS & COMBATICONS
One type is an AND gate. An AND gate has two or more switches in series (picture them side by side in a row on a wire). In order for there to be an output ALL switches must be closed. (Think hose pipe: if theres a gap in the pipe nothing will come out at the tap.)
What does this mean? It means that the Aerialbots and Combaticons can only combine when ALL of them are present within their respective teams. All the switches have to be closed! Not one, not two, not three, not even four, but All five. Which out each other they cannot access the blueprint for their combiner altmode, be them limb, or torso. With this system it is impossible for them to transform individually into a leg or an arm or a head without the proper connections. This connection could be a physical connection, a command frequency, a metaphysical switch between them. But at the end of the day unless you get fuve out of five combination is impossible. Thoughboth Superion and Bruticus are powerful combiners, with good connections, and decent sustainability, they are held back by the fact that they were built, or modified, at an earlier stage of the combiner creation wars, and as a result of the lack of understanding of the technology, their design has a lot of flaws.
2) OR GATE PROTECTOBOTS AND STUNTICONS
An OR gate like an AND gate needs its switches to be closed so that an output can be received. Except, it doesn’t matter whether all the switches are on or off, because they run in parallel rather than series. So, as long as their is a connection you’ll get an output.
I concider both Defensor and Menasor as second wave combiners. Though Menasor was “created” before Defensor, the decepticons combination technology is canonically further ahead than the autobots. But the principal still applies. Both the Protectobots and the Stunticons can access their combiner altmodes. They don’t need to be given an activation code, or command signal. As long as they’re connected to that spark circuit they are technically tripple changers. God, I’m having visions of Blades landing on ppl as a giant arm now and then chasing them down like a grotesque spider limb robot thing, Blades this is a kids show!
Lastly NOT gates. A NOT gate basically inverts the input. So, Logic 1 goes in Logic 0 comes out, and visaversa. A NOT gate can be added to an AND gate to make a NAND gate, or to an OR gate to make a NOR gats and makes it so that if a voltage is being received from the input power source it will be inverted to zero at the output. I’m not going to go into much more detail because its the idea of stacking systems, and the principle I want to apply.
So, so far we have gestalts that can’t touch their combiner form without all team mates present. Gestalts that can access their altmode but only when they have a full circuit. And finally Ambulon. Ambulon is a combiner and one day we are going to meet hia combiner team and I’m going to cry. But I like to think that he comes from an experimentation on the creation of combiners further down the line of discovery. His altmode, in fact his only altmode, is a leg. So, NOT gate logic applies in the repect that without his team, without command, Ambulon has control over his form, how? By instead of feeding the combiner system, starving it.
Now all of this could also apply to a personality compatibility rather than a literal system. Where in which if like in Ambulon’s case they didn’t get along but they could still do it, and though Menasor can combine he’s stuntied by the fact that the stunticons aren’t extremely compatible ( which if it was a wiring problem could be classed as one of them not supplying enough voltage, so their collective brain isn’t getting enough juice.) Either way, combiners are buggers to build but I still want one.
tldr; Both sides scrapped things together when they connected the combiners leaving some ristricted in thier transformation, others limited, and some later on with complete freedom, because I’m a dork and I wanted to talk about the fundamentals of Instrumental systems!
