Yuri!!! On Stage is one of the most possible event where Yuri!!! on Ice Season 2 (YOI2) possibly be announced. Not only Kubou-sensei already said that there’s surprise for us the fans, but also several conditions which support this event to be one of the greatest seiyuu events in any of anime history!
Reason no.1: The Number of Viewers
Firstly, let’s congratulate each other as YOI fans. The event held at Maihama Amphitheater today is the normal size of seiyuu event which is around 3,000 to 4,000 fans will attend each event. There are two events, day and night today, so just twice the number. The total is less than 8,000 fans. It’s A BIT more than most of the seiyuu event, but it’s still a normal number (Seiyuu/Anime concert like Utapri and Seiyuu Radio event like DGS are different with the normal seiyuu event).
The real number comes from the live viewing with more than 100 locations all over Japan, where several locations have BOTH day and night event! The last time I checked it was 147 total events. So rough it up fans! The capacity of a movie theater in Japan is 150 to 350 people. Just take 200 and multiply by 147 and we get 29,400 fans!!! And that’s not even the final number!
Please remember that out of 19 locations in Tokyo (and total 25 events), 18 (23 events) of them confirmed SOLD OUT. Tokyo has the biggest theater capacity with a lot of them exceed 360 seats per room.
I’m tempted to change the number, but just add 8,000 and 29,400 minus the less at Maihama and we will get… round down 37,000 fans. And I am honestly being thrifty with the number *^*
Compared to the timing of other seiyuu events, I really feel that Yuri!!! On Stage comes TOO FAST. The seiyuu event usually held at least six months after the series ends. Even for series that becomes a hit like Free!, KnB, SnK, Haikyuu!! choose to hold the seiyuu events roughly EIGHT months after the series ends. It’s only the fourth months after YOI ends and they already hold an event this big!
Next is my own very reason and the one that really makes me think about YOI2 comes sooner that expected.
As a lot of you know, I am a seiyuu fan. A lot of my predictions and thoughts about anime are based on the information given by the seiyuu involved, either by interviews or tweets. As far I can say, it’s very helpful and accurate. That’s basically the main reason why I found the end of YOI very UNUSUAL. It’s not about the end of the story, but more of AFTER the series ended. From all of the series I know, it is given to have an opening AND closing interview.
The opening interview is the one we mainly see on the website; comments, hope for the support from both fans and staff. The closing interview is the one with thank you messages and PICTURES of the last recording session. Staff usually gives flowers for the seiyuu and in return, they will thank them for their help and support. The closing interview usually posted roughly before or after the series end.
I saw how close the staff and YOI cast but as I wait for the closing interview, it never comes. It’s not even in YOI radio ep 13 where Kubou-sensei (staff) was the quest. A lot of you may think that I am overthinking, but let me explain it:
Imagine you come to someone’s place for six months and you spend five to six hours a day with them working on the project. You laughed together with them, hanging out, eat together, and cry together when time gets hard. When the project ends, will you just pack your stuff and go without saying goodbye?
I don’t think so. Especially with YOI, you’ve seen how Viktor’s VA tweeted his katsudon dinner after recording (the real Katsudon, not Yuuri or Tosshii duh). You see how Kubo-sensei tweeted her thoughts about YOI and how staff reacts about it. You’ve read countless interviews from both seiyuu and the staff.
BUT what if the seiyuu never thank the staff officially because they don’t need to?
They don’t need to thank the staff NOW because they still see them on regular basis. They don’t need to thank the staff because the recording is still going on! The better explanation is that they never stop recording and go straight for YOI2 after YOI recording ends!
Katsuki Yuuri’s VA, Toyonaga Toshiyuki stated before that YOI recording takes at least five to six hours per episode and it was the longest recording for him. It somehow makes sense to just continue the recording and prepare with YOI2 with how YOI so well received around the world.
Once more, they can go classic with two to four months after announcement. So if we have the announcement tonight, YOI2 will be aired on July or August 2017. But here I admit that I completely have no idea. With a seiyuu event this BIG only four months after the series ends, I find it hard to predict when the exact time YOI2 will air.
However, like Viktor Nikiforov, YOI never stop surprising their fans. So here I’m, patiently waiting to be surprised once more :) :)
