Prior to the days of weight gain facilities, one of the few jobs available that enabled the massively fat was work as a circus fat. While they spread the message of extreme obesity far and wide, they often fared no better than other beasts of burden in the care of the circuses. By 1987, the last of the circus fat men had been rescued.

Every once in a while, we get a wave of new patient admissions, and occasionally they have something to do with what's going on in popular culture. A while back there was a certain film that made fraudulent statements about an all-fast-food diet. Gainers at the time decided to try documentary making for themselves as they haphazardly gorged on massive amounts of fast food. Needless to say, few if any gainer docs were produced and we had a boatload of newly minted extremely obese patients. Luckily we were able to respond and help quite a few of them out.

In this family, they love to eat, and no one was shy about being fat. But Nick outdid them all. By 19, he had crossed the 500-pound mark, leaving his father behind at 430 pounds and even his older brother, who weighed 490 pounds at 26. He kept eating more and more, which made him even fatter, so now he can barely get up from the couch: there’s so much fat that his belly prevents him from standing.
