Ashap Oyuncak Atolyesi – Topac yaptik

Together with over 70 kids we made many spininng tops (topaç). For two full days we worked with 8 classes, making a spinning top for every child. The children then loved playing with their own handmade and handpainted toys. This is a picture for some of the younger students after making their own wooden toys. Remember, all our workshops are bilingual: our volunteers speak both Turkish and English, so this is also a good opportunity for your kids to practice their English with a native speaker.  Last month we organised a training event for our new volunteers, who learned how to make a traditional Turkish spinning top (topac) out of wood. These new trainers will then run the workshops and teach your kids how to use our kid-friendly lathes to create their own handmade spinning tops, as well as other amazing wooden toys. Recently, Oyuncak Kutuphanesi was invited to do a workshop for a group of children in Umitkoy. There, we taught the children about our machines and they learnt how to make a topac. They designed the shape and made it with their own hands, learning the technical functions of the lathe/torna. After finishing the topac, Oyuncak Kutuphanesi also presented one of our new creative activities: “seven-times-smaller paper” (Yedi Kaç kuçulen kagıt). In the second activity the children created keyrings and other small objects of their own design.

 In December we completed six trainings for 40 volunteers, students and teachers, coming from Ankara, Izmir, Busra and Cyprus. During these intensive trainings the participants made their own shadow-puppets (Karagoz or Hacivat), using our wooden toy workshop machines. Later, during the second half of the workshops, the participants learnt how to perform the hayalbazlik shadow puppetry. We combined the traditional stories with new ideas and transported Karagoz and Hacivat to the 21st century. These volunteers then performed their sketches to underprivileged schools across Ankara.

Eğitim programı yaratıcı drama ve yaygın eğitim teknikleri ile desteklenerek öğrenme odaklı bir şekilde planlanmıştır. Eğitim süresine bağlı olarak tasarlanacak ve üretilecek oyuncaklar çeşitlenebilir ve eğitim sonunda katılımcılara sertifika temin edilir.
