Define ( Stage 2 )
The pandemic has abolished our existing fitness regimes and institutions and created them in a digital format. Though we have seen a high increase in download and usage of these fitness systems and learning them to keep ourselves engaged , but while digging in we find people seldom remain hooked to one application and strictly follow a certain regime
Before the pandemic struck people were all very accustomed with their regular style of living , but since then this pandemic has disrupted our lifestyles. We have been suddenly forced into things that previously we might not have done or not intended to do. Suddenly the whole system has gone digital. Screen time has increased with no difference between personal and professional life. People have started neglecting their health and more addicted to digital systems.
The extended lockdown drove a massive surge in the demand for virtual classes for yoga (87%) and high-intensity interval training (HIIT) cardio workouts such as Zumba (72%), aerobics (67%), and pilates (22%). Moreover, an overwhelming 84% of fitness enthusiasts tried live-streaming fitness classes at least thrice during the lockdown – marking a significant increase over the corresponding numbers in 2019, which stood at 29%. During the lockdown, 77% of Indians also tried to stay fit by combining household chores with virtual classes and DIY home workout routines.

Pivot yoga has developed workout clothes that enable posture correctionÂ
To understand how COVID has impacted our fitness schedule and changed the way we used to learn it before, we conducted a survey with 35 participants.. Fitness includes - sports activity , gymming , yoga , dance , cardio or othersÂ
We also conducted a primary research using 5 participants. This a sample questionary with Participant Pragya Saini Age , Sex and profession 24 years , Male , Masters student Did you have a general fitness plan? Were you a regular at fitness before pandemic ? Not a regular plan as such. But I used to play badminton because I had and fun and used to enjoy it
Has the COVID lockdowns impacted you in your fitness regime ? Yes it has. My friend Manjusha and I subscribed for an online training subscription. We worked out regularly i.e about 3-4 times a week. On days when I don't follow the workout regime from the subscription, I used to skip rope for 5-10 minutes
Did you start something new or learn during the pandemic? I tried different forms of workouts from my subscription. I also began running and cycling with my friends. If no/yes then why? In all three instances above, I had a companion which motivated me to do it.Â
What kept you motivated in such a novel situation? I was motivated by my friends. Having someone to workout with helped me gain consistency. And everytime I worked out, I used to feel happy about it. The happiness became the motivation for my next workout and this becomes an infinite loop.
With regard to my subscription, the app has energy meters and a ranking system which motivated me during the workout sessions. There is an opportunity to document the workout with a selfie at the end of each workout. So this began to turn into my workout journal.
Given an opportunity what would you add/ subtract/ change/ revolutionize. An accurate energy meter for motivation. I would also like to have a more personalised experience with respect to workout types and some personal attention during class.

Research Insights People want to work out but they lack consistency because of lack of motivation and resources Count of users of fitness apps has increased abruptly during pandemic situation. This is mainly because of the inaccessibility to fitness centers and playgrounds.
Things that increase the motivation for the user are - Companionship, Reward, No repetition of exercise schedule, visible growth in physical well being. After downloading the fitness apps, people lose interest and move away from the app because of the increased screen time and no motivation to come back and workout. Before COVID, people used to prefer going to the gym and play sports for fitness, while after lockdown people have moved away from gym and are either doing light home exercises or nothing at all. People have different motivation to do any physical activity. Some of them found during research are weight loss, as a fun activity, and to add a new skill to their skillset. More than 50% people have become lazy and gained weight during COVID lockdown because of the lack of any physical activity at home.More than 70% don’t have any fitness plan if the lockdown happens again because of the lack of resources to workout and lack of regular monitoring .
