That tone wasn’t convincing, he knew that for sure. Brown hues looked down at the floor as he played with the rough fabric. Part of him felt like he was being scolded, but Joyce was far from the type to scold anyone. He looked back up, faintly shrugging as he did.

The offer however stunned Harrington, why would she be willing to waste time with him when she has two sons who need her more than him? Not like he could say that out loud however, he knew his place. “I… don’t want to keep you from your evening, Ms Byers. I’ll be fine, I can wait.” For what, his woes to vanish? Fat chance.

Joyce gave him a condescending glare, clearly not having any of it at the moment. “ I already phoned the boys and told them I would be late for dinner. C’mon. ” Three seconds from just attempting to shove him from where he sat, Joyce stepped out into the street and over to where her car was parked. She fumbled with the keys a moment before finding the correct one, and climbed inside after popping the door open.

It would take a moment or two for the car to warm up, and she normally didn’t crank the heat like this, but had fully intended to let the heater warm her up a little bit before leaving for home. Joyce popped the car’s locks, looked out at Steve from behind the windshield, and her hand hovered over the horn. If she had to use it on him, she would.

Steve half wanted to avoid that glare, but he couldn’t escape it as he felt himself gain a lump in his throat of anxiety - over a damn glare. Eventually he swallows it as Joyce stepped away to make her way to her own car, half wishing his own wasn’t in maintenance for a faulty gear box, so he could make his own way home.

Though those thoughts went out of his head as Steve saw her gazing at him, almost waiting for him to either move or face the consequences for not doing so, and as such he stood up and slowly walked over to the passengers side of the vehicle, opening the door tentatively and slipping into the seat. “You don’t have to be this kind, Mrs Byers...”
