I don’t know quotes off the top of my head. I often times think of things, google quotes or thoughts on that particular thing & write it down in my journal. I googled writing + pain and a quote by Ernest Hemingway popped up that said: “Write hard & clear about what hurts.” If there’s any author that encapsulates this it’s Hanya Yanahigara. . Much like The Goldfinch it took multiple times of opening and closing this book to finish it, but not in the same vein because where there’s a love/hate relationship with TG, there is ALL love for A Little Life. I actually finished it! This book was dark & painful & real but I was transfixed on this story. What seems to be just “post grad millennials” trying to navigate their careers & the mundanities of life, there’s the very authentic trauma we humans deal with that is, more times than not, the driving force behind EVERY SINGLE decision we make. It is an incredibly difficult thing to control. What I greatly appreciated is that Yanahigara didn’t gloss their pain. To be honest, there was no hope of breakthrough in the narrative whatsoever. . It was refreshing in away because it makes the reader focus more on the relationship between these characters. Jude was the most fragile but he had a circle of friends to provide him with compassion. These moments are sprinkled throughout the story and right at the moment you’re wrecked, you’re then reminded of the little things that matter in the midst of mental and emotional struggle. *sigh* . Just wanted to thank you all so much for your lovely messages on my Bali trip. There’s a 2.0 in my highlights if interested🙏🏽. I kind of put myself out there but hey such is life, right!? Been thinking, but I’m also coming back to this account on a consistent basis, but I don’t know when lol. 🍂 Not so deep: I just don’t want to run two accounts.
