I don't like Sonic 2 (1992) that much, I even think it's the worst out of the 4 classic sonic games sure it introduced a lot of good things like Tails and it has good music and allat, but there are problems that I don't see enough people mention the game has a lot of "hold right to win" mentality, and I mean this as a way to say the game is sometimes so linear that you can go fast easily instead of granting it as a reward. It also kinda started the misconception of Sonic only being about going fast, which should not be the case. the level design on its own is like whatever, I just don't like how nothing burger & sometimes annoying it is (cough Metropolis cough) Which is kinda why I love Mystic Cave & somewhat tolerate Oil Ocean, bc they have level designs that isn't boring or annoying (maybe there's some annoyance but it isn't over the top) The special stages suck ass, especially when Tails is around. They can be fine if you're a solo character, but I still hate the fact that you may not see what's coming and you have to pause buffer so you don't fuck up. Tails being there ruins it, as you have to time your jump so Tails doesn't hit a bomb bc he has a delay whenever he jumps. I do know about the new versions making it tolerable, but my opinions still stand. (FYI I only played like the genesis ver & that fanmade absolute port) Sonic 2 isn't a bad game tho, it's just mediocre at best.

Also I really hate Cosmo. she barely does anything until like the end of the series, and has a personality similar to Cream and Tikal but in a way I despise. Her design is whatever and the concept is neat, but it doesn't help her cuz the execution wasn't that great. I don't understand why people want her to come back, she's dead, she's been dead for 2 decades. They could've brought her back during those 2 decades, but they chose not to and put her as cameos instead bc they knew. Admit she's never coming back, don't let the pot at Tails' lab or the pencil from that one Sonic Channel art fool you. Also they should have never made her and Tails a couple, I would have been whatever with it if the shippers weren't obnoxious at times.

Not gonna lie, I can’t play most 2D Sonic games without getting dizzy and wanting to throw up. I can only play Sonic CD and that’s because the searching for the generators slows down the speed (Ironic considering we’re talking about Sonic)

But I can tell when a game is well designed and it’s just a skill issue. Sonic 3 and Mania for example. I can’t finish those without wanting to throw up, but I always leave with a feeling of “This is a good game, it’s just a me problem”

I feel the same with Sonic 2. Maybe a bit too over reliant on the spin dash, which I guess adds to the feeling of “press right to win”, but I wouldn’t call it the worst 2D sonic game (the special stages I can’t defend) (but I’d also say only ever Sonic 3 has had good special stages sooo…)

Do you want to know what IS a terrible game? Sonic 1. Sega was a marketing genius back then, because Sonic was 100% carried by the character and not by the game. Only ever Green Hill and Starlight zone are good. Marble zone is tedious. Labyrinth is a nightmare. Spring yard is inoffensive but I wouldn’t say good. Scrap brain is as tedious as Marble and then at the last minute turns into Labyrinth zone 2.0. The special stages aren’t as unplayable as original Sonic 2 but personally they give me a headache. The bosses are terrible (but to be fair, when has any 2D Sonic game had consistently good bosses?). It’s a game with a total of TWO GOOD ZONES and that’s it.

I think it would’ve been a little easier to send the Cosmo thing as a separate ask but oh well. Every time I try to watch Sonic X I drop it because I can’t get myself to like it. I’ve never made it far enough to see Cosmo as a character. I like her design. I wouldn’t see how bringing her back to life would work given how the X continuity is so different from game continuity… like, outside of how good or bad she is as a character. How would that work?
