also this ac downgrade literally overlapped a different game challenge event that was infinitely more fun and rewarding. friendship ended with altador cup, kiko match iii is my new best friend

#memory match isnt the most fun thing ever #i wouldnt even call it more fun than most of the ac games #but the tasks were simple and the rewards incentivized me to come back for each one #but the windows to complete the challenges were longer than once a day so i didnt feel bad about being busy every so often #i am bad at forming habits you gotta work with me here

Altador Cup is bumming me out big-time this year. It was bad enough that bye days used to be on Sundays so I couldnt go ham on my weekends off work, now its EVERY OTHER DAY, so if im hit hard one day and cant participate, suddenly the next day when I'm feeling better all my playtime will be wasted and I'm just playing for prize shop points.

Its just so sad to me. I understand having to slim down the event because tvw was so grueling to get past the finish line, but they could have at least kept the ranking system?? or have at least some external motivation for playing more that isn't reliant on the whims of other players!

The battle pass thing was interesting but I maxxed points less than an hour into day 2. The one achievement you needed to come back for bugged out if you sent a single bad score or used a different device for a game. The prize shop is decent but all I ever want from those is like whatever the big ticket wearable is and a couple dumb cheap souvenirs I can toss in my sdb for a laugh every once in a while.

I want my goddamn lookup trophy. I want a tiny webpage fragment with shiny gold and jewels that lets people know I'm a gamer and I do my best and I like repetitive tasks. Is that so wrong?

#neopets #altador cup #and like i do like the new game and new team and stuff #im not even a “triple-all-star” type ac player #i basically just play as much yyb as possible and a smattering of other games for flavor throughout the event #but i did that bc there were rewards to doing that.#if you arent in a guild and dont read the neoboards how well your team does is basically rng #maybe a slight inkling for yyb if you notice the computer is particularly easy or hard that day #but getting all-star was fun. you could track your progress and make up for skipped days by grinding harder the next one #and once you were there it was pretty clear where your team would place #so you could make an informed decision whether to go hard for your team or take a breather for the last few days #now its like #i went hard day one to see what it would award me #and it wasnt much #now i have to set my own goals for this dumb game #like im doing a neopets nuzlocke or some shit

I become a little more evil every time a new article about neopets comes out and calls it a girl game. Like I guess??? If your introduction to it was like post-2007 where the dressup game became the main money-making part of the site or you only heard about it by seeing magazines and merch at Limited Too/Justice or made a judgement call about how many of the NPCs are female (namely the faeries).

Are browser games just intrinsically seen as games for girls in mainstream culture? I don't see how neopets is more girly than other browser games like club penguin aside from like, having more female characters. Is it because it doesn't cater to one gender exclusively its got girl cooties and must be quarantined? I feel like I'm going insane. Girls love battledome, girls love gambling, girls love dr sloth and haunted woods and yearly sporting event. Why can't boys love shopping and dressing up and taking care of their pets too?

#neopets #the playerbase was super mixed when i played as a kid #and maybe that meant it skewed girl because the Internet was a bad place to admit that at that time #but its not like anyone had reason to doubt a boy would be playing neopets
