Specifically Hackett and Noir are getting new refs— Hackett is the beloved Fox guy on my intro sheet but Noir isn’t shown.

I have the feeling tumblr would like Hackett :))) will post more of him soon. He’s a performer dude from the 20s stuck alive due to a shitty deal with a kitsune. He does benefit from the youthful looks and the fox qualities tho. Overall dudes kinda a sleezeball irl as a tourist trap kinda dude who steals from others to adopt into his craft, but ppl online would love him for his wacky spooky/macabre vibes. Will wood fans will find him, trust 🫡

Jokes aside this is my first pride in years actually making an active choice to engage with the larger community— I know for safety sake day to day I kinda hide in plain sight, but online has always been the outward space we can express regardless of social convention.

Even if ya feel ya haven’t done nothing, just keep on keeping on I suppose.

Names Vince— originally short for Vincent.

I’m an oc creator, illustrator, and academic straight outta college but I keep my learning going I suppose. I’m an anthropologist and art historian at heart, as stereotypical as it can be, I love adopting techniques and themes from old media into an extremely graphic style, but will also talk people’s ears off in the description as long as I’m given the space.

This blog isn’t just for traction, as much as I’d love to get out there, I only intend to find like-minded artists and scholars I suppose.

On my identity?:

Identity wise I always just say I’m a weird cross between queer trans and gay… if you’d see me irl you maybe wouldn’t know. Most days (with coworkers), they think I’m cis guy, or atleast just a weird guy. On “energy” days (idk I’m always some kinda ill, so not often) I wear my weird thrifted 70s stuff and ppl go “yeah just a weird trans guy”. I’m literally just like “whatever” atp. If it came down to it, gender stuff doesn’t matter to me idk why I need to cater one way or another when I just act and like what I like. I know it matters to some, and I respect whatever they wanna be called or hold onto! I know it affects how people treat me, and now know I have both a disconnect between all my male and female peers, both saying I’m not quite “relatable” enough for them. So I just live— any pronouns, was og trans guy so.

On my ocs:

I have been developing my stupid little guys for… years. As much as “years” can seem when I’m only 22. I started everyone out when I was an awkward girl in elementary school creating characters for my friends. Now college grad, all those original folks have gone their separate paths, and over time I had adopted pieces of myself into my little guys. Now I feel they are more of me, eternally part of me, decide their own features, likes, dislikes. As I evolved into a trans guy around my mid years, I took the name of one of my favorite ocs despite their negatives— taking into account all of his qualities, it was almost as if naming myself after a close family member. They were always there when I was quiet.

I don’t dream of a massive web series. Maybe some books if I dream up the time. Mainly just some people to see and appreciate these guys..

On my studies/main topics:

I have the disservice of wanting to learn too much, especially when it comes to art. It was a benefit for me to have peers of all backgrounds and a space to explore wherever in college— I’m now a graduate in Museum Studies and Anthropology. I focused on more intricate and graphic styles; pattern work from Islamic art, angular stylization from the Egyptian and Mexica people, contemporary art from mostly Asia and Native Americas. When it came to more intimate research, I mainly stood where I could relate and speak without overstepping cultural boundary; in religious and occult study, as well as the study of gender throughout this.

And yeah, while maybe basic, this has been a main inspiration even past my studies to my art. While I have many characters from different areas of the world, most times inspired by local history, the main focus is still on both Christian and occult topic of Europe and the Americas. Yes another series influenced by Christian mythology I get it…

Hobbies/interests/main series:

I collect books; or attempt to while broke. All my textbooks, museum catalogues, and art books from school. Comic books, manga, all the way to a started collection of splatterpunk and thrillers. Other collections include: the Pokémon (not card focused. Plushies, 6 counting, mainly vaporeons but not weird), antiques and flowers (does not match vibes. Animal skulls, jewelry, small statues, dried flowers), and vinyl (music is my actual main interest believe it or not.)

As I was saying music is my main thing— just as I love to be an encyclopedia for art historical symbolism, I also love to collect genres and bands like no tomorrow. Mainly prog metal, prog rock, even down to folk, hip-hop, and old alternative. This is coming from the dude who will forever say Tom Waits is like—- the COOLEST guy. like bro… nobody knows who Tom Waits is apparently I feel old.

Off to the void this goes. It’s embarrassing for you if you read all the way thru; what are you, obsessed with me or something?

Bigender angel and the hermetic androgyne

Done in part as a trade with @ultrainfinitepit ! The angel (bottom) is part of a MASSIVE series of pride themed angels, and I had the chance to draw any. I was immediately inspired by the bigender angel to allude back to hermetic/alchemic symbolism I love and have studied on. I’ll spare the really long explanations but I brought together the bigender flag, depictions of the androgyne, and pose from the fool to make a humanoid counterpart to their angel design!

This was really symbolism I wanted to use in my own art dissecting my own gender identity soon— but for now I settled to bring together old knowledge with the new— depictions of gender non-conformity are certainly not new, and will continue to prevail despite all that is ahead.

Did I put too much thought into this? Yes. Did I originally write a whole thesis here that tumblr did not save? Also yes. I applaud you for reading thus far, and if you’re queer like me, this is all a reminder that we will get thru this.

This is certainly a project I’d like to return to, but for now was just part of a final project. I don’t have many origins of the actual tale, since it is part of the oral history around my old friend Codas place. I always love these cautionary tales, but wish I could flesh things out further.
