I'm gonna walk into the forest one day I post my photos and videos and music occasionally. I'm some dude in his 40s living in Estonia. I run more blogs: - Estonian is horrible
- Reze Arc stills
- good reblogs 3x a day
- I draw horribly (rarely)
- Nature and heartwarming stuff ADHD Stimkit
(2026 work in progress "game") I recommend reading this book to everyone (or anything else by Donna Jackson Nakazawa). Messages are open to non-spambots.
Update Q2 2026: I'm [still] extremely low on energy, so I don't have the energy to hang out outside. Hanging out at my place is possible on days when I don't have migraines.
I'm up for parallel "play" and by play I mean I can provide you with my instruments, art supplies, a small working desk in a separate room and you can bring your laptop and do work.
We don't even need to do anything, just parallel co-existence is fine. Also I'm a solo [unemployed] game developer now. Feel free to DM if our hobbies match. Old post continues:
This is as much a reminder for myself as it is an invitation for friends - existing, new, and potential, to join me on activities:
Real life:
- Nõmme walks
- photoshoots / photo walks
- other trips
- making art (mostly acrylics and watercolors, but I'd love to explore new media, within a sensible budget)
- just dinner or pancakes sometimes in smaller groups
- making music, whether just for fun, or to finish something
- just quiet tea & book reading hangouts
- ERSO/TKO/EMTA/MUBA concerts!
- programming, music production, composition, color grading, video editing knowledge sharing / workshops / projects
Online - Zoom, Discord, Google Meet:
- knowledge sharing (same as above)
- music production
Other that I haven't thought through but accepting proposals:
- game development (Rust, Bevy, Tauri, Vue, Phaser)
- other art projects I could contribute to
- video essays
- demoscene / sizecoding
Things I wouldn't mind learning but they're not a priority:
- other art forms like sculpting, papier-mâché, engraving, etc
- almost any craft or practical trade like woodworking, gardening, renovating, etc <- invite me over if you need a shed painted or sth
- 2D and 3D animation, Blender, etc
- cooking baking etc
- eesti keel lol sorry maybe in the _next_ 13 years I'll learn it.

I'm inventing a new startup. You tell me about your life and I write a scathing summary and then give you drugs that give you an orgasm while yawning. The service fee is 200 euro. I call this Psychiatry

haha ew. one of the worst weeks of my life. statins make me turbo tired. good things happened too: hangout with a friend. art. doctor visit. got a haircut. still overwhelmingly tired and in pain.
trying to be more deliberate about designing the upcoming feature for my game - exploration - and balance coming up with cool ideas, but not putting them in code until they're ready to be worked on.
several past footguns on this project were because I excitedly designed data structures with what sounded cool, and not what was well thought out. so, obviously, i'm trying to think things through and commit to code only what I'm going to work on right away. (savegame migration is also a hassle when you're not working with just loose json)
also realizing how much "easier" it is to develop games that follow a formula. I don't mean that making whatever unoriginal popular AAAA shooter sequel is easier than my silly game, but the closer you follow genre conventions, tropes, formulas, the fewer chances you give yourself to shoot yourself in the foot, and the easier it will be on your player cognitively.
Some more minute game design notes about exploration and procgen below the fold
(so much for "it will just be 3 sentences this week)
So my game mechanics are inspired by three main things: Progress Quest, in that most of the game should "play itself", The Sims, in that I want rich interactions and a pretense of life, and an obscure web game called Adventure Fame. Player should be able to play this while they're high on medication in a hospital after a car crash.
At the same time, I don't want the game to be just a bunch of RNGs in a trenchcoat. While I will use procgen, the world should feel specific, not generic. But the lore and stories should be optional most of the time. Again: disability-friendly clicking.
There should be three or four levels of interaction and their respective cognitive demands:
- (0) game plays itself. story events are not progressing
- (1) only 1-button clicking. story will not progress until player chooses to
- (2) very trivial "action", possibly 4-directional or mouse-drag or one-stick movement, exploring a cave, sewers, possibly simple mazes, no failure mode
- (3) engaged - story beats, decisions, leveling up, managing inventory, talking to NPCs, potentially dating sim elements, RPG elements, etc
Player should be able to play in engagement level 0-2 while watching youtube, without losing attention. (Realistically 0-1 but you know people will be overly optimistic about their cognitive capacity.)
Player should enter mode (3) voluntarily and explicitly, and not ever be forced into it. The game shouldn't distract the player more than explicitly agreed on.
---
Anyway so. Exploration. I've decided that the first game world will have hierarchy Quadrant > Area > Location.
Quadrant will be the game world, split into voronoi-ish Areas (hardcoded at first). Moving between Areas will require some travel time, and it will collapse/expand a list of possible activities. Areas contain 1~n Locations. An example of a Location is "your house", "your garden", "village center", "abandoned mine". Current Location determines the possible automated actions, e.g. "picking berries" "picking fruit" "petting cats" when you're in your garden.
Areas like abandoned mines, sewers, beach, forest, will have exploration features.
[1] "Infinite" type exploration is just boring old RNG. In case of hitting some special events (Encounters? no name yet), these should be queued so player can view them / make decisions about the encounters when in active play mode. The design/development challenge is balancing the RNG and creating the content, both repeatable (items to find?) and unique (story beats, decisions, NPC dialogue?)
[2] "Limited" would be similar, just with a clearly defined limit. Eg. you might see a house falling apart that's beyond salvaging, so you "explore" i.e. clean up the house, demolish it, sort the rubble, burn what can be burned, move items to recycling, give out or take what's good. The Location will then transform into another location, e.g. someone might build a house on the same foundation, or it can become a public space (gazebo, dining/picnic area, building material storage).
(I haven't actually even thought about locations having their own history, but I guess we're gonna be doing that eventually, since it goes along with my themes of rebuilding and transformation.)
[3] other types of explorable Locations will be basically a mix of PCG and hand-crafted algorithms and hand-crafted maps, e.g. exploring caves or sewers will have a map that will be vaguely maze-like, and exploration to 100% will happen only once the actual map is traversed (either automatically or by player controls)
I'm actually getting hyped for the game again. Small yay.
One of the perks of being a game developer (for better or worse), is that you might wonder "how big are abandoned secret military bases" and then because you might reasonably add abandoned secret military bases to your game, you just research it

I vaguely remember that this blog used to be about mildly interesting stories from my mildly interesting life with occasional good photos?
Today I had a migraine that made my face and jaw numb.
Anyway. I find myself strangely at peace - not fully, I think the worst hasn't hit yet - but still somewhat at ease and ready to reevaluate the hostility I felt towards my mom a lot of my life.
2018 was the wildest year for me. After the whole Crazy Neuroscientist situation, my Swiss bestie visited in part during the same time as my mom's first and only visit to Estonia.
It was a little cumbersome. Fitting 3 people into 3 rooms wasn't the most cramped, but having to translate between English and Slovak gets tiring, mostly because one language is foreign to me and one is alien. I convinced everybody to have a daytrip to Rakvere and the adventure started great when the train wasn't running due to repairs, and we missed the replacement bus.
My mom refused to take a taxi, so we wouldn't make it to the train on time. Well, it's fine, we can take a bus. We got to Autobussijaam and I thought "oh, a bus to Narva is bound to go to Rakvere right" and I was _almost_ right. I walked to the attendant, I said 3 tickets to Rakvere and the attendant gave me tickets, we sat down and an hour later watched on the phone screen as sped past Rakvere towards Ida-Virumaa.
Welp, team, what do we do. Mom said she was already feeling nauseated from sitting in the back of the bus, so we got off at the nearest stop, i.e. in the middle of nowhere.
We consulted the map and the timetable and with about 2 hours to kill, we decided to check out nearby small town which was at least near the sea. Little did I know that my future ex's mom grew up there! I won't know that for another year though.
We get to some ruins by the sea, gremlin around with Fi, my mom eventually catches up, we check the time, realize there's nothing to do in Aseri, so we walk back and find an anachronistic roadside .... ??? restaurant??? thing. Where we eat for like 2/3 of Tallinn prices, which mom of course complains about and tell me how I could cook better food for that kind of money. Yeah cool I guess labor is free or whatever.
I consult the team and mom says she's tired - she's 60 after all - so Fiona and I skip Rakvere for one more year and head back to Tallinn.
my life got somewhat simpler and less tainted by jealousy when I learned to say/think "that's a high energy hobby" "that's for people who can run around" "that is spectacular but not essential"
like did Boards of Canada run cryptic marketing campaign, publishing encrypted messages and VHS tapes or radio signal or scavenger hunt or w/e, did they organize listening parties around the world? good for them! sounds like a high energy endeavor. I would just release the music. Not the same effect, not the same aesthetic, not the same enigma. But again - enigma is for people with extra energy.
And not to be all "bad thing is actually do thing because it's what my situation is" but yeah. To some degree it's nice to simplify some parts of my life. I'll take some tasty nutritional mush that I can cook over some mega fancy 50 layer cake that I could never have skills and tools to make.
