headcanon ★

𝑹𝑼𝑳𝑬𝑺. read these before following

it wasn't so much the way that joshua said those words as it was the content on the sentence that told hanekoma that it was a lie. the composer may play like it wasn't a big deal what the angels over head were spoke gospel about him, but in reality the producer knew that it was a tremendous weight to have that level of judgement from beings that were considered superiors. the composer was trying to 'be the bigger person' in this situation and operate as he would if it was about another districts gossip. hanekoma could read between the lines.

rather than scold his composer for sitting on his counter; he gives him a considering look before going to grab his favorite coffee mug to join him on the counter beside him. any other time there would have been some sort of smartass comment about 'counters are for glasses, not asses' since it was business hours. he'd make an exception today. it wasn't like there was anyone in the cafe anyway. it was just them and it's simple enough to imprint on the humans outside the shop to just keep moving without looking in on them.

❝  surprisingly, nothing much'a bout you lately. ❞ he begins, taking a long sip of his coffee. there was some things, of course, but there were bigger subject matters in the moment. shinjuku's inversion was still a hot topic now that the dust was settling. it meant more eyes were going to be on mikagi.

❝ they were impressed with your restraint of action given' th' former game.  ❞ he had his own personal feelings about that but he'd elected to keep those feelings to himself. there was no need to drag that back up.

❝ oh, i wouldn' dare presume. it ain' my place tell'a angel what or what not needs t' be done. you had yer reasons an' s' far as i can tell, yer ownin' 'em.  ❞ he couldn't imagine the amount of stress this particular kiryu had been under. everything he'd heard from his composer sounded..... stressful. definitely lonely.

❝ good.  ❞ if hanekoma needed any other confirmation that joshua had changed, it was hearing those words out loud. he had known joshua for quite some time now. longer than most people knew people within the UG, let alone the reapers game. he'd seen the composer at his lowest. he'd seen yoshiya at his worst... and yet, he still pushed forward. against the odds, repeatedly, he'd kept pushing forward to figure out what it was he wanted.

hearing those words out loud filled the producer with a kind of warmth that settled any hint of unease within him. it quieted his concern for him.

"It's supposed to be banana an' cinnamon. I was kinda hopin' a more mellow fruit wouldn't be so bad."

❝ well, that sounds promisin'. let's see.  ❞ hanekoma says, eager to see what beat had brought him to try today. he was no doubt one of many people to whom the other had reached out to for feedback- though based on the way it was worded; he might be closer to one of the first for this particular baked good.

there were few people hanekoma could count that had a natural skill come to them, and not so surprisingly, beat was one of those people. he had a fairly diverse pallet when it came to taste and over the last couple months, hanekoma had come to realize just how creative when he had actual space to explore his ideas. beat might not have been a game winner in the traditional sense, but the producer knew that the city had a sort of fondness to him; so he might as well have earned his spot amongst them.

when beat set the muffin down, he reached for it; switching gears former from his sketching he'd been preoccupied by to something more culinarian. the muffin had good colour and smelled good, which was good to start. visually, it was appetizing which was half the battle when you were trying to sell. he broke the bread down the middle and felt the denseness; giving a nod of approval.

❝ thats what i like to see. you did a good job baking it at the temperature you did. looks fully cooked while still maintainin' moisture.  ❞ dry muffins were the worst. once the bread was open, the cinnamon and banana really made their appearance known. the barista made a point of picking up the bigger half to break the top from the middle to try the top and bottom half separately.
