The aesthetics of an ideal study area.
I have only two modes:
1. Oh, I want to stay in bed all day and pretend to be a depressed cinnamon roll, please
2. I want to clean the house, learn japanese, hawaiian, russian, arabic, sign language, linguistic, geographical stuff, read 5 books and practice watercolor
Before the study sessions:
0. Mark what you have to study/read in your textbook.
1. Make sure your study space is tidy, so that you won´t have to do it when you have to study and waste time.
2. Schedule when, where and with whom are you going to study.
3. Find a productive study place. I´ve recently noticed I cannot concentrate in my house, so I´m always visiting a library.
During the study sessions:
0. 101 in productivity, cut out the distractions. Don´t fool yourself, you can be weak and your phone is very tempting, turn it off.
1. Once you read the information, you need to change it´s format so that you can process it and remember it better. Diagrams, charts, drawing, taking notes, repeating it out loud, making summaries, whatever works for you.
2. Study like a teacher. It is said that you really know a topic once you are able to explain it to somebody else. And that´s another productive way of changing the topic´s format. Use your own words.
3. Work hard, no one is going to learn for you. You are your own person and you should feel responsible for your education and future. Wake up hon, get some shit done.
4. Take regular breaks, your mind needs to rest too. It also needs some fuel, so have some water and food near you.
After study sessions:
0. Revise regularly. Make mind maps without looking at your notes, ask yourself questions, etc. DO THIS EVERY WEEK.
1. Have a self care routine. Take a long break, have a shower, meet some friends. Rest.
2. Be concious of your progress or lack of. Is the exam date aproaching? Am I ready for it? Am I falling behind? Do I need help?
3. Find a method that works for you and kick ass. Do it for you, for your future self.
