viktorβs transformation really does just Get Me. itβs just like. what if you were told for your entire life that something was wrong with you and your body but no one seemed to want to fix you. what if you worked so hard to compensate for the things you couldnβt do and were told every day that it wasnβt enough, and still the world constantly demanded more and more from you despite resisting you at every step, wearing you down until you were almost nothing, until you were on the verge of death, and still no one wanted to fix you. what if you tried time and time again to show them that it didnβt have to be this way and time and time again it failed to change anything; time and time again they remind you, in no unclear terms, that they donβt want you here.
so what if you had the choice to become something else? what if you truly believed you were something fundamentally less than perfect, less than human, and you finally had the power to fix yourself like no one else ever could? what if you finally forwent every semblance of who you once were and rejected even the very possibility of acceptance in favor of completely divorcing yourself from humanity and everything theyβve done to you and told you to be? what if you chose to become something completely unrecognizable and entirely other, knowing that your body will never be what they wanted it to be but at least itβs not yours anymore, and that finally, finally, though it cost you everything, youβre free?
what then?
Because the thing is, when youβve been made to believe your entire life that youβre less than human, divorcing yourself from humanity doesnβt even seem that far of a leap.
