Zurich is a birthplace of Richard Wagner's “Der Ring des Nibelungen”. It was here that the German composer - a wanted revolutionary in exile - developed the ideas for his opera cycle, wrote the draft of the drama and put large parts of the composition on paper. For this reason alone, the city has a special closeness to the giant work, spanning four evenings and 16 hours of music, which continues to captivate opera enthusiasts to this day and which has left a lasting mark on high and popular culture.
