This is usually the part where I would show you the passage the image pairs to, or its original description in the companion guide, but this is the first time something goes here first. hui so novel, ne? Now we have to make up what goes in the actual companion guide together. Here goes, okay?

You know, I thought I had the whole image hosting thing figured out, but than imgur silent ban my account for using their image hosting site as an image hoster... I guess they want to pretend they are social media now, so they don't play nice. For now, Tumblr plays nicer, and now you people only on AO3 can see things that for a while I was only able to share on Discord since I could not post new images. Here is Warden Gaeric's family (and Warden Gaeric). Aiyo, I could have drawn the children a little better but if you try to draw perfectly you will never draw at all, yes? He meant it when he said he's almost three times as wide as Ingo. When I look at his game art and I look at his descendant Wulfric, hm- respectfully, I do not believe that man should be thin or have a six pack. No one before inventing workout gyms has any business with a six pack, much less living in the Icelands! To fix this problem, I put Gaeric into a wine barrel until he was, eh, two decades older and fatter. Mita and her husband are so sturdy and better complexion than Ingo. You can tell how strange he looks when you put him next to literally anyone else. (Also, looking back, apparently I first said he was 5'5". That is wrong. It's 5'3". I said 5'3" every other time except the first! So sorry!) I did actually look quite a bit at Ainu tattooing, the things that ended up on the face and arms and hands, but the end product of that you will not be seeing in this specific drawing. But what you see here, I did actually think about what would be going into Hisuian symbolism. You know, we are always doing research that maybe the readers will only see the half of, because we want things to be sensible and be able to put together later when we need it. We have a rather extensive backlog of images at the moment but many of them are spoilers for things that haven't made it to the story yet. In the meantime, I really do need to exercise the old muscles and make new drawings. Are there references we have never made that you would like to see? Or colorless drawings of certain scenes where you couldn't really picture it? I can't do everyone's requests, of course, but if many people all ask for the same thing, I will do my best! -Aenor

Ash grey facial tattoos enclose her lips, punctuating in hollow circles at her cheeks. Ingo is a frail framed and thin faced man with a paper pale skin tone, grey hair, and borderline white eyes, wearing an embroidered black coat over his Pearl Clan tunic, a black hat, and a Sneasler hair ribbon tying his ponytail. Warden Gaeric a blue haired man only slightly taller than Ingo, but much wider than both him and Mita- a broad man with a good bit of visible fat on his chest, belly, and muscular arms, punctuated by sparse scars, body hair, and stretch marks. His tunic is tied around his waist with a traveling pack, leaving him shirtless and revealing the Pearl Clan sigil shaved on his chest. Him and his wife are both heavy browed and greying, but Gaeric is smiling while Mita has an intense expression. Ingo's is rather blank in comparison.

Epistolary: Hisuian Lilligant, Illustrated by A. Laventon

Save for the Lady of the Ridge, this forme of Lilligant can no longer be found in the wild. I fear it is nearing extinction. I wonder... will this be, not only the first, but the final entry on this fantastic beast? I hope this is not true. I know that it is.

Epistolary: Sixth Day As An Underfunded Professor Of Pokemon Studies

Emmet decides to continue with his chips as he watches the papers slowly print out, bit by bit. Each page they show has been visibly torn from a larger book, and so, so many are stained with ink and tea and dirt and ashes.  Emmet picks the first one up out of the printer tray, the paper still slightly warm from the heat of the machine.  Rei, the other person that had gone missing alongside Ingo, had been mentioned in one of the few parts of the main journal that Emmet had already gotten to. But Ingo hadn't mentioned this "Rei", hadn't mentioned anyone appearing from the future. His brother isn't an idiot, and wouldn't just forget to mention something as important as a second time traveller, so clearly they hadn't met yet. But he'd mentioned the Zorua. Emmet looks at the next page that falls from the printer. He had a lead. One way or another, he would find Ingo. And the next step in doing that was finding Akari. Emmet set his chips aside, let the white noise of the printer wash over him, and began to read.

Foxfall, The Extraneous Companion Guide: Warden's Coat

The eventuality of Ingo's coat breaking beyond repair has been sitting with the authors for a good few months before it was finally revealed in the book. That poor old Subway Boss coat has been through many unnatural things over twelve years. The sigil on the hat is probably the only thing left that could be salvagable. The Pearl Clan tried very hard to make something that would feel safe and familiar, but not a bitter parody of the uniform he lost. The embroidery on the back- hi, Aenor here, I did not have it in me to match the very beautiful patterns on genuine Ainu clothing, and this coat was frantically made together by a whole crew of people in a day, after all. But I did want to blend that style of embroidery with the kind of shape language shown on the clans' tunics in-game. As for why there's another one for Emmet, well, Ingo can't fathom why, but he cannot imagine such a coat without it being a matching set. One will be made later by his own prompting as he learns to repair his own coat over time. The chapter it was introduced in says plenty enough, I think, but you are free to comment on the symbolism and color choices for yourself. Ah, but I really did love their Sygna suits for Eelektross and Chandelure in Pokemon Masters. Which probably tells you how long we've been sitting on this design. You know, since they were very much based on clowns and they chose to wear those uniforms, I think for better and worse their personal taste has that very jesterly element, so I wanted that to be very apparent here. Don't worry about the painted nails. He doesn't have those in Hisui. I just wanted to have a little fun.

Pretty much all of Akari's pokemon are built wrong, being either hybrids ill-suited to survive the wild, or born with adaptations that are poor for their wild environments. Shimmer had a Glameow for a sire and lacks the proper ears/tail to communicate with Luxio prides.

I wanted him to look like the kind of guy who would say a dad joke with his full chest. He's definitely a very dark skinned man. He's also definitely dyed his hair pink on the exact parts covered up by his hat. What color are his eyes? A very warm bronze or gold, I think.
