Chapter 3
---------------------------------------------------
School has been an interesting experience that's for sure. Between classes, quidditch and certain rivalries. Fred and George have been having a blast, literally with prank after prank knocking it out of the park for them.
"I'm telling you, Georgie! This one is going to be the piece de resistance!" Fred laughed as he showed George their new ultimate prank. With some wonderful knowledge from their potions class, they concocted a super spicy serum that they infused into cookies to feed to the Slytherins, their favorite targets.
"I can't wait to see their faces, they're going to look like tomatoes!" George snickered with a big grin as they stood in the corner, watching, waiting for their victims.
Aedlin seemed to be coming their way, blissfully unaware with another student from their year, Elizabeth Jones, another pureblood Slytherin that was also often the butt of Fred and George's pranks. The girls were laughing, smiling and cracking jokes happily and blissfully unaware of what was to come.
"I'm telling you, Lizzie! James literally got his hands stuck together with that broom polish. Madame Pomfrey had to get some Glow Shroom sap in order to unstick him," Aedlin laughed while telling her friend a story, falling right into Fred and George's clutches.
George watched with a smirk, nudging Fred as the two girls grew near their trap and noticed the sweets. "Huh?-" Aedlin commented upon noticing the cookies. "Oh these must be Andy's! They did say they were making cookies for everyone today!" Elizabeth commented with a smile before grabbing herself a treat. Aedlin felt skeptical but decided to trust, knowing her classmates had indeed stated they were going to make them cookies that day. "Alright, one can't hurt then!" She smiled all the while grabbing a treat and taking a gleeful bite.
Fred and George's smiles dropped almost instantly as the girls took bites from the sweets making both violently cough and hold their chests in pain. They might've overdone it with the potion by a smidge. "How much did you put in?" George asked Fred with a concerned look. "The whole bottle like you said!" Fred admitted while glancing at his twin. His words made George look horrified while the girls suffered nearby. "I said don't put the whole bottle!" He whisper screamed at his brother.
"Fuck-" George mumbled as he watched Elizabeth rush inside the Slytherin common room while Aedlin fell to her knees, coughing, wheezing with tears running down her cheeks, the potion had been so spicy that it was burning them in a painful manner and it made them both feel guilty as they had intended for a more 'Oh merlin, why is that spicy,' reaction not 'Oh god, my mouth is on fire, it's hurts!' Reaction
Eventually the pair decided to cut their losses and rushed off, leaving the girls and cookies behind. "If anyone asks we were down by the Quidditch pitch!" Fred stated quickly as the pair ran down the halls of Hogwarts and away from this mess.
Days went by since then and both girls had to take some time away from classes as they were taken to the hospital wing, which made the boys feel even worse. When the girls returned they were extremely quiet, especially Aedlin as their mouths were still burnt and it hurt to speak.
This silence from her stretched all the way until the end of the year much to George's dismay. He hated her but still liked hearing her talking with her friends and looking happy and now because of him and Fred, she was silenced until their train ride back home.
Now late june, everyone was bidding farewells to one another, happy waves and cheers towards their professors who some might never see again. It bittersweet end to their time in their home away from home and bit of a rocky one due to their prank. Lee, Fred and George got to a compartment early, making sure to grab some good seats for the long journey home.
"What are you two gonna do over the summer?" Lee asked in glee as he leaned back into his seat with a bright smile. "I dunno, probably gonna mess with lil' Ronnie-ickles!" Fred beamed with a mischievous grin. "That and eat some of mum's cooking, been missing that one," George snorted while taking a bite of a licorice wand he had stuffed before leaving the tracks.
The three began to mess around in their compartment, talking about next years quidditch, current games going on during summer break, classes they couldn't wait to get to and so much more. The energy was lively and on a pure high as the train trecked forward back to London where they would meet up with their families respectively.
At one point as night began to pull, George left the cabin and made his way towards the restrooms. Once there he bumped into a certain girl that had been making his stomach twist after the cookie incident.
"Bloody hell!" George stumbled as he practically slammed into her, his hands quickly going to either side of her against the carriage wall to keep them from falling over. "Ow, dammit!" Aedlin exclaimed while rubbing the back of her head which had smacked the wall. George stared at her wide eyed for a couple seconds, not really knowing what to say, as that guilt from earlier in the months came back in full force. "I-I... are you... alright?" He managed to choke out while taking a step back.
"I'm fine.... just watch where you're going," Aedlin huffed while pushing past him to leave. "Wait-!" George called out, his hand snapping forward to grab her wrist. "Look, I'm sorry, ok?" He blurted out without thinking. "What?" She asked in confusion, her eyebrows furrowed as she gazed into his eyes. "I'm sorry about the cookies, we didn't mean to-" George began before getting cut off by her. "That was you two!... ugh, I should've known! Madame Pomfrey had me on regenerative potions because my vocal cords got destroyed by those cookies! You caused almost 3rd degree burns on my mouth!" Aedlin squeaked out in anger.
"3rd degree?.... god I didn't know, look, I'm really sorry, it wasn't supposed to go that far," George explained only for her to scoff and pull her hand away from him. "Well it did and people got hurt, why can't you just leave me alone!" Aedlin exclaimed with a frown before storming off in a rage, leaving George behind. He felt awful but didn't know why he wanted her to forgive him so badly, but he did and that seemed like something that wasn't happening anytime soon.
Eventually the train stopped right back where it had left from in king's cross. Students getting off one by one to greet their families. Fred and George bid Lee farewell before rushing towards their Mother and Father who stood proudly towards one of the edges of the tracks with their little siblings. "There's my boys!" Arthur beamed in glee as he pulled in the pair into a tight hug as Percy and Charlie both greeted their mother. "I thought you couldn't come Dad!" Fred exclaimed with a grin only for George to continue. "Yeah, I thought you worked!"
"Ah, I asked to leave early! I wanted to hear all about your first year!" Arthur laughed as the family all shared welcomes and hellos, greeting one another happily, now reunited for the summer. At one point a certain girl rushed right passed the Weasleys towards a man in the corner. "Daddy!" Aedlin squeaked happily as she jumped into the mans arms. The man was tall, fairly lanky, wore patchy clothes, had graying hair and scars on his face, claw like marks right across his skin, like if some animal had marked his territory on the man. He looked happy to see her, holding her tightly in his arms almost afraid she wouldn't have come home that summer.
George couldn't help but stare at the scene, 'She's a Black.... and her father looks like that?' He thought to himself watching the moment unfold, he had always figured she came from an extremely wealthy family but perhaps she came from a side not so lucky financially. Maybe that's why she had been so upset at the glitter, they probably couldn't afford the robes. That made him feel worse of the situation, how could he have been so ignorant especially given his own families financial problems.
The guilt continued to eat at him for the next few days as their summer vacation began.
