Xinyi slid beside them without their notice. They were too distracted by the flower arrangements in front of them. He didn’t usually make a point to attend these town events, since they hardly made for good business. But there were currently some very enthusiastic potheads behind a bush that begged to differ. “Boo.”
Millie jumped, startled. Fingers that had been delicately touching a cherry blossom now encircled the soft pink flower, ripping it from its branch as she jolted. She’d been too engrossed to notice Xinyi coming until it was too late. Millie looked at the crumpled petals in her hand and felt herself fill with anger. She glared at Xinyi.
“There was no reason to do that!”
