The ending to this book sort of put me in a sour mood. So, sorry ahead of time if I seem a little off today. Trust me, it's all the books fault and not yours.
Maybe they like you? Or, maybe you have a pet at home and they can smell them on you? I dunno.
Wouldn't it be peculiar if they could smell a pet fish on me? I guess it will remain one huge mystery.
"The cats are probably looking for attention or comfort, perhaps? And can sense that you are nice enough to do so? They could also be plain hungry…”
Every time I leave the apartment, there's a herd of them following. Maybe not that drastic but there are a fair few that seem to appear out of nowhere. It's a little strange, feral cats never seem to enjoy comfort from strangers.
Maybe nepetalactone is somehow present in your bloodstream. Biologically it’s impossible unless you decided to inject it in for who knows what reason, but we all know by now Barton Hollow is odd so perhaps it’s a birth defect. You might consider investing in some research for a cure.
Why anyone would inject themselves with an organic compound from catnip is beside me. Or maybe I just have a natural vibe that attracts cats, who knows. But I doubt science or genetics are involved in this. If they were, I would have probably heard of it by now.

Are you part cat by any chance?
That would be fascinating, wouldn't it? Unfortunately, I don't think I will be the next Catwoman.
You must be a real-life Disney princess.
Then that means I must have an angry stepmother I know nothing about. And I probably have rodents do all of the house cleaning. - I wish. Not for the stepmother part, of course, but the having little creature's clean my apartment. That would be a dream come true.
I have catnip. I wonder if the little one is lost.
You carry catnip around? That is actually pretty handy. Maybe it is just searching for a nice, loving home.
Perhaps they find you gentle or have seen you offer spare bits to another of their kind?
I am guessing they are more likely acting like scavengers. Maybe I should open up a little shelter for cats or something.
Why do stray cats always follow me? No kitties, I do not have catnip.

Adriana’s Past;
A smile that made you smile, a laugh that made you laugh - a person who’s so infectious and lively it’s very unlikely you would ever forget her. Adriana Lennox, a girl who earned much more in tips than she did actual wages - a girl who is the epitome of the phrase ‘carpe diem’, is truly one of a kind. Adriana is a free spirit and she always has been. She does what she wants, when she wants… however that shouldn’t be confused with being reckless, because she’s far from brainless. She could have had a successful life, financially speaking, but she considers herself to be successful in life, because she’s happy. And that’s all that mattered to her - being happy.
Growing up her life had been nothing special, it was quite simply an incredibly ordinary one. It’s rather surprising considering everything that happened in Barton. She grew up with both her parents, and albeit they weren’t there all the time, they still found a way to always make time for their daughter. Possibly the only thing in her life that wasn’t considered average was the fact that her parents tried to recapture their youth every now and then. Slightly disturbing she’ll admit, but not exactly headline worthy.
It wasn’t until Adriana’s thirteenth birthday that her parents told her of her true lineage. Before then she had thought her parents were just an average couple, with an equally average past – a human past. Her father was a human, but her mother, was not. She was a mermaid, who had chosen the mundane life. This new information hadn’t really affected their relationship, nor did it her life. She simply brushed it aside, because to Adriana, it wasn’t really a big deal as she was still the same person she was before she knew the truth and she would continue to be so. Life went on. It continued on as average as it had before, just your run of the mill teenage problems every now and then. They talked about school, college, the future – all things Adriana didn’t care for. They wanted her to have a bright future, the one they knew she could achieve, and she just wanted to do whatever she pleased. Sadly for her parents, college wasn’t exactly in her plans—no matter how much they urged her towards it. However, even with all the arguments and conflict, she still loved her parents, because she knew that they did it because they cared for her. But at the same time she just wished they could accept her choice and not try so hard to make her like, well, them.
When she was nineteen, she left home for the first time. Not to college, but to go back packing. She wanted to explore – see the world for herself. She didn’t want to just sit there in Barton and read about it in some ratty old book from the library, like she had been doing all this time - even after graduating. Those four months she was gone, were some of the best of her life, but she wouldn’t want to experience them again. They were done, those memories were cemented for life - the experience was completed, she had a million and one other things she wanted to do before she would dare to repeat another.
The day she arrived back into town, which actually happened to be three weeks later than she had intended, she was met with people – people she had never seen in her twenty years of living. Alarmed, Adriana had flung her bag onto the floor and tore through the house to look for her parents, but she didn’t need to find them to figure out what was going on. It had become more than evident once she noticed the lady in the pinstriped suit making the house, her house sound like it was the greatest place in all of Barton. Her parents were selling their house, the place that she grew up in. And she was undeniably hurt that they hadn’t thought to tell her. But were they ever planning on telling her?
An hour later, after everyone had filtered out of their home, they told her everything. That they had been planning to tell her when she had gotten back, but when she extended her trip, they decided to wait a little longer. They had gotten a promotion, which meant quite a bit more traveling and since Adriana wasn’t in high school anymore, they took it. They wanted to wait for the right time to tell her, and they were actually going to leave once she was off to college, but since she never decided to go they had to delay it. It didn’t make it any less of a betrayal in Adriana’s mind, because they had been planning this for nearly two years, ever since she turned eighteen. And to make matters worse they were leaving in less than a month. She realized that this wasn’t just her parents leaving, but this was them telling her to get her act together because once they were gone – she was on her own. There would be no house, no food in the fridge, no one to pay the bills – no money period. They were leaving her with nothing. The reality set in quickly for Adriana, she went out and got a job the very next day at a local restaurant run by an old friend and started to look for apartments. The living situation proved a little more difficult than the money one, but as far as her parents knew – she already had an apartment.
As soon as Adriana’s parents vacated from her life, Christopher moved into it permanently. The day Adriana’s parents left was the day that she moved into the spare bedroom at her boss’ house, but she never looked at it like that. Christopher was her friend, and soon enough, her best friend - the only friend she’s ever had that she cared enough about to consider him her best. She had arrived to work that day disgruntled and distracted, and thankfully Christopher was able to tell right away. After hearing her troubles he offered her the room and without a second of hesitation she said yes - the rest was history.
She moved on, they clearly moved on. She hated that they weren’t as close as they were before and they probably wouldn’t ever be, but there was nothing she could do about it. They were traveling all around the world for work, she knew that much for sure because of all the post cards she’s gotten over the years. The ones that have been collecting dust on the corner of her desk. She wanted to hate them for leaving, for leaving her, but she didn’t. They had raised her and given her a comfortable life, she couldn’t really blame them for wanting to live their life after giving her so much already.
As the time passed by she had grown comfortable with the life she led. She had someone to rely on, she had a pseudo family at the restaurant and she was happy. It had been nearly four years since her parents had left and she hadn’t seen them since, but she soon would. They were coming to visit, and she couldn’t be happier – she even took time off work to come pick them up from the airport. The day of their arrival she had made sure to clean her car out for them. She knew how much her mom hated mess, but as the last wrapper was thrown into the black Hefty bag, so was her happiness for the day. Her parents weren’t coming, a sudden work thing they claimed and that was all she was given as an explanation. That’s how she found herself at the Anti-Hero pub that night, drowning her sorrows. She would have gone to Christopher, but he was working and she didn’t want to bother him until the dinner rush was over – she was so glad she didn’t.
Apparently when you see the one - you just know. That’s exactly how Adriana felt when her eyes were cast upon Rhiannon. She didn’t know who she was, or what she was, but none of that mattered, because their connection was undeniable. She would have made her way towards her, but just as quick as it happened, the moment was taken away from her. The spell had been broken, and reality came crashing back. She looked away and the bartender had apparently been trying to hail her attention for a while.
She couldn’t help but feel like things were about to change, she just didn’t know whether it was for better or for worse.
Currently in Barton Hollow;
The weeks passed by agonizingly slow since that moment - all she could think of was the girl from the pub. Her smile, her eyes, everything about her from the subtle curve of her lips to the color of her hair. It was like she was haunted. She occupied her thoughts, invaded her dreams and frustrated her beyond belief. She wanted to find her—she did—but then she didn’t. She looked away instead of coming to her that night, so maybe what she felt was nothing but the alcohol playing tricks on her… but it couldn’t be – she didn’t want it to be. She contemplated on the idea of looking for her, but she didn’t even know where to begin. She figured if it was in the universe’s plan for her, then it would happen. And it did.
She was working that day. She had been since before opening that day in fact, something about a special. She didn’t particularly care to remember, she had been too tired to. She had gone through rush, after rush of hungry, almost feral people, but by the end of the night none of that mattered. She had been scribbling down an order, thankfully on the last hour of the night, and then just like the first time, she turned her head and their eyes met. She could feel her heart pang and her smile grow – she wasn’t alone with her feelings.
That was it – they had lit the fuse on the fireworks and it was beautiful. At least for her it was. The moments, which were actually hours, were amazing and they were flying high – nothing could bring them down. Rhiannon told her about her lineage, and Adriana told her she didn’t care. She didn’t care about her own lineage, much less the ridiculous feud between the two. Rhiannon on the other hand did care - she cared a lot. She was a member of The Shipwreckers, the sirens, the ones who mermaids were supposed to despise above all. And despite it all, despite how much it annoyed her she agreed to keep their relationship a secret. She figured that should have been an indicator that this was going to be only the first of many issues.
Once they parted ways that night, she had gone straight to Christopher—who happened to be in the back room—and told him everything. Over the next few hours, while playing countless games of Mortal Kombat, she told him about the events of the last few hours, with a little game trash talk on the side, of course. She realized if this were anyone else, they would being trying to stop her from doing something so reckless, but he just snickered something about love between an alligator and a crocodile. Moments like those reminded her how much she really loved her roommate, and that was problem number two.
They had been sneaking around for her months, like teenagers in love. And as much as she hated the fact that she couldn’t kiss her girlfriend in public, she would rather be with her in secret than not have her at all. But as time progressed and they got to know each other even better, she noticed how all the little things in her life seemed to not sit well with Rhiannon, one of the biggest being Topher. She had told her many times that there was no competition between them - that her love for Topher was purely platonic, and it had always been that way. After a while she started to let it go, that was until Adriana told Rhiannon that she was bisexual. She didn’t think anything of it, but that was problem three.
They had started on crystal waters and clear forecasts, but slowly the waters had gotten darker and the air around them was getting more and more charged - crackling with energy. The ship that was Adriana and Rhiannon was already on turbulent water, but as soon as Adriana joined the Sea Babes - it was like she had entered a whole new kind of storm - icier and deadlier than ever. They had hit problem number four, which took the shape of an iceberg - the one that threatened their very existence.
Adriana hadn’t exactly sought out the Sea Babes, much to the contrary. But when they asked her to join she couldn’t really find a reason to say no. She thought that it would be a fun opportunity, but Rhiannon thought otherwise. It only caused more conflict between the two. Rhiannon considered it to be a near betrayal, whilst Adriana didn’t see the big deal considering that Rhiannon was a part of The Shipwreckers and that was no different.
The waters were murky and conflict swirled in them, but they had their moments of calm and she cherished them, but how much longer until even they become just another victim of the storm?
Her Quirks;
Adriana is never one to plan - anything. She’s very much a person that just goes where life takes her. If an opportunity she likes presents itself - she’ll be the first to jump on it. She’s never been one to deny herself the simple pleasures, like the unexpected and unknown.
Her free personality doesn’t just extend to her attitude on the future, but love too. She doesn’t care who, or what someone is, because as long as she loves them, that was all that mattered.
The one thing Adriana despises more than shitty tippers are stereotypes. She hates being placed in a box and having to fit the ideal that is presented by it. Christopher has always reminded her of how ironic it was that a person who hated stereotypes had ended up in one of the biggest stereotypical relationships of all time.
Much to Rhiannon’s dismay, Adriana is a person that’s attention can be completely stolen by a book. When she picks up a book, a good book, the world around her falls away.
To her, there is nothing better than the water. When she’s on break, she occasionally takes a dip in Lake Pontchartrain, but what she really wants is to go to the ocean. However, the moment she set foot into their waters, would be her last. The closest Adriana has gotten to the ocean is in books.
Most people assume that Adriana doesn’t move forward in her life because she isn’t mentally capable of doing so. Though that couldn’t be further from the truth. Adriana actually had one of the best testing scores in the nation, with a near eidetic memory it would be impossible not to.
Adriana has a pair of beat up Van’s in the color gray which she wears nearly all the time. She’s had them since she was twenty and doesn’t plan on getting rid of them any time soon.
Despite being impeccably organized and neat at work, if you’ve ever seen the inside her bed room you would think that it houses a family of five… rats. Whenever she is questioned about it she usually defends herself by claiming it’s to keep thieves away.
When people talk about most TV shows, Adriana usually has nothing to contribute. She’s never been a fan of regular television, but rather Japanese anime. She’s always been an avid fan of the amount of detail that goes into anime.
She’s become accustomed to Rhiannon’s insecurity, but the one thing that never fails to piss her off is when she brings Topher into it. Apart from Rhiannon, Topher is her only true friend and truthfully the one person who accepts her for her, so she hates it when Rhiannon continuously gets jealous of the fact that she and Topher live together.
Adriana’s Connections;
Rhiannon Findley:
Her big love. Her one love. Her forbidden tryst. Rhiannon Findley was all of those things. They truly encompassed the stereotypical Romeo and Juliet romance, but Adriana never thought too much of it. The only thing she cared about was Rhiannon, not politics. Their love was beautiful, but it wasn’t perfect. No matter what, Adriana would love Rhiannon, but that didn’t mean she necessarily loved everything she did, which included questioning and berating everything Adriana did and stood for. She’s never been a fan of people trying to change her, but she would accept that Rhiannon only wanted what was best for her. However, that didn’t meant she necessarily had to become what Rhi wanted her to become, she still had to stay true to herself.
Christopher Lennon:
If there was one person that could rival how much she cared for Rhiannon, it was Topher. Christopher Lennon had been her best friend since she started working at The Flying Crocodile, but he was also her boss, not that really mattered. Their friendship was instant, it was the kind that amuses others, the one that you would fight for no matter what. She knew for a fact that Christopher would be there for her until the end, despite anything that would or could happen. He was the only person to have ever stuck by her, and truthfully he was the only family Adriana had and she, his.
Her face claim is Kaya Scodelario and she is currently currently played by Tess in CST.
