big red's parents are the cool parents of the group. they are always open to have the group sleeping over at their house, invite them over to their pizza shop constantly, allow them to perform there and even host a fundraiser to rebuild the auditorium. they see how happy their son is with the drama kids, how involved he got in tech and how much he cares about them, so they do everything they can to support him.

seb can play any instrument, but he feels more confident playing the piano, the cello and the saxophone.

ash, gina, seb, nini and carlos are all part of the baking club.

carlos learned how to do hair to help the girls at his dance classes on festivals and competitions, a skill that all of the girls take advantage of during sleepovers.

ricky starts going to therapy, and it helps him to stop botteling his feelings and start communicating them.

kourtney is part of an important feminist group and started taking a lot of politics courses to help her with her activism.

the first person ej came out to was carlos, who was kind of his "gay guru" when he started questioning his sexuality. that made their friendship stronger and, whenever one had a problem, they knew they could always count on the other.

gina and ashlyn started questioning their sexuality around the same time and took a bunch of "am i gay" quizzes online together. they also read a lot of stuff on sexuality and gender before finally setting on a label.

big red, ricky and nini dressed up as ron, harry and hermione for halloween at least once

gina, ash and ej became really close after having a deep conversation about how they feel like their parents are never around.

whenever he's anxious, carlos rambles in spanish without noticing, and when he told seb he loved him for the first time his nerves betrayed him and he gave a whole speech in spanish to a confused seb who only understood what was going on when carlos said "te amo".

when kourtney started to question her sexuality she went to nini's mums for advice, and they guided her through everything she needed. after a while, when she came out to them as a lesbian, they bought her a lesbian flag that she hung up on her bedroom as soon as she came out to her family.

nini's mums took them all to their first Pride. they took pictures of them, including: seb and carlos, foreheads touching, wrapped on a rainbow flag; big red painting little bi flags on ricky's cheeks; ash and kourt smiling at each other, a lesbian flag around their shoulders; ej in a rainbow jersey with nini who was wearing the bi flag as a cape sitting on his shoulders; gina with rainbow ribbons on her hair kissing nini's cheek and, finally, all of them together, laughing happily. the pictures are now covering a big part of nini's wall.

sleepovers at ashlyn's quickly became a regular thing since gina started living with her, whether it be a girls night only or the whole gang.

no ond was surprised when ricky and big red started dating, not even their parents, which made the fact they took so long to realize they liked each other so much funier.

After a disastrous first scene as Chad, Carlos ran off stage being immediately cornered by Nini.

“Where is Ricky? What happened?” demanded the girl.

“No one knows. EJ says he basically forced him to take the role and that he seemed really on edge” whispered the choreographer. “And after ‘Get’cha head in the game’ he was looking for you. Something about his mom’s new boyfriend” he added, suddenly remembering. Nini muttered something that sounded like ‘oh, shit’ before running backstage. Carlos sighed and was about to follow her when EJ approached him.

“I saw Seb by the wings” said the boy. Carlos raised an eyebrow.

“Isn’t there where he is supposed to be?” he asked, sarcastically. He could hear Ashlyn singing Wondering and Bop to the Top came after a little scene between both numbers. EJ rolled his eyes at him.

“Can you let me finish? He said he was fine but it really didn’t look like it, he seemed terrified” Carlos heart skipped a beat.

“I’ll go talk to him” he said, starting to walk away before turning back to EJ. “Thanks for telling me” The boy just smiled at him and gestured him to hurry.

He got to the right wing where Seb was pacing back and forth, fidgeting with the feathers of the blue cape he was wearing. EJ was right, the boy did seem scared.

“Seb?” he asked, cautiously. The blonde startled a little and turned around, his blue eyes wide open and his face pale. Carlos furrowed his eyebrows, concerned. “What’s wrong?”

“I don’t know if I can do this” he bursted out avoiding Carlos’ eyes, his voice shaking.

“What? You are literally the only person who can pull this off” said Carlos, reaching out to grab the boy’s hand and gave it a reassuring squeeze. Seb shook his head and opened the curtains just enough so the choreographer could peak at the audience. He couldn't help but smile at the sight of the army of blonde people, all holding signs supporting Seb.

“My family bought out three rows of the bleachers, and they even have signs! I don’t wanna let them down” he admitted. Carlos turned around to look at him.

“You won’t. Besides, they already saw you steal the entire ‘Status Quo’ number, didn’t they?” he said, hoping to at least get him to smile.

“But with all the lights I didn’t see them. Now that I know they’re here…” he trailed off. Carlos hated to see him so down. Seb was an amazing performer with the ability to steal every scene he was a part of, especially while playing Sharpay. When he was on those shiny heels he became someone intimidating who commanded everyone’s attention. He had an amazing voice too, and had improved so much on his dancing skills. He was absolutely perfect, and Carlos couldn’t let him doubt himself.

“Like I say, you’re the only person who can do this right” he repeated, wanting the boy to remember that. The blonde opened his mouth to protest but Carlos cut him. “Seb..” he placed his hands on the boy’s shoulder and stood on his toes, kissing him on the cheek, right over the little blue star. Seb blushed and, finally, a smile made its way to his lips. “You’ve got this”. Seb smiled a little more, a spark of mischief on his eyes.

“You missed” he said biting his lips nervously, but with a playful tone. Carlos frowned, confused.

“What?” he asked. Seb’s smile just widen as he leaned closer, one of his hands making his way to Carlos’ chin, gently tilting it up. Carlos heart fluttered when their lips met in a short but sweet kiss. As they broke apart, both with big smiles and blushed cheeks, they heard the audience clap, indicating that Wondering had just ended.

Carlos grabbed Seb’s hand, as they waited for the scene to end and his cue to come on stage.

“Remember, count your blessings and dance your heart out” said Carlos, before standing on his toes and kissing Seb’s cheek again. The boy closed his eyes and giggled, just when the lights went down. “Bop to the sky, baby” he added, turning him around and giving him an encouraging push towards the stage, marveling in the way he quickly changed his attitude and became Sharpay once again, with just one flip of his boa.

It was the big night. Finally, after weeks of hard work and stress they would be able to share their show with the world. Or with the students body of East High, at least.

It was opening night.

Backstage everybody was adding the last touches to their makeup and hair, warming up their voices, stretching and trying to go over their lines without letting the nervousness get to them.

Carlos, despite not having to go on stage, was as nervous as the rest of the cast, checking the props every ten minutes, making sure everybody knew their cues, and writing down a list with every costume change. The show needed to be perfect or else he would not forgive himself.

“Fifteen minutes people!” announced Miss Jenn, trying to act as calm as possible. She was, after all, the glue that holds the cast together, and needed to show her students that she trusted them. A few squeals and nervous mumbling followed the announcement, the excitement and tension evident on the air. Carlos felt his phone buzzing, a text from Kourtney.

sebs a bit off, i think he might need to talk to u. Carlos felt his heart sank as he went to the makeup section, almost bumping into Kourtney who just smiled at him and nodded towards the blonde boy.

“Hey, you!” said Carlos, approaching his boyfriend. The boy turned around and smiled at him. “Ay Dios mío, you look amazing!” exclaimed the brunette, admiring how good Seb looked with bright pink eyeshadow. The blonde blushed at that.

“It’s all Kourtney’s work, she is amazing” he replied, his voice weak. Carlos furrowed his eyebrows.

“What’s wrong?” he asked, sitting on the chair besides the boy. Seb shrugged.

“I’m just a nervous, that’s all” he said, forcing a smile without meeting Carlos’ eyes.

“Seb”, insisted the boy, placing a hand on his cheek so the blonde would look at him “talk to me?” he asked softly. Seb sighed.

“What if I completely mess up? Or if people think it’s weird that I’m playing Sharpay? What if I’m not good enough?” the boy almost whispered, trying his best not to let the tears in his eyes fall. “I mean Gina is amazing, Nini was basically born to play Gabriella, and Ricky he… he is a natural at this, it’s unbelievable this is his first time acting! And I am-”

“The best Sharpay we could ever ask for” Carlos cut him off. “And not only that. You are also the best Sharpay since Ashley’s” he took his boyfriend’s hand reassuringly. “I’m not supposed to tell you this but, when we saw your audition, Miss Jenn whispered to me ‘He is the one’, and she hasn’t changed her mind since that moment” Seb smiled a little, the first sincere smile in a while.

“Really?”

“Yeah. And I did too, ever since you asked me if you could audition for the role. I remember the determination on your face and knowing, right at that moment, that you would get the part” Seb smile grew wider. “Besides, you are one of the most talented people that I know, you’ve got nothing to worry about”

“Thanks, Carlos” said Seb, now with a big, genuine smile and pink cheeks. Carlos smiled back and caressed Seb’s cheek with his thumb.

They stayed like that for a moment, getting lost in each other’s eyes and letting the silence said everything they just weren’t ready yet to say. They started to lean in at the same time, eyes fluttered closed, noses bumping ever so slightly so that Carlos had to tilt his head a bit to the side with a little laugh from Seb. Electricity seemed to spark on both boys bodies when their lips finally met in a soft, gentle kiss.

“Five minutes people! Gather around!” yelled Miss Jenn causing them to break apart quickly, both of them with dumb grins on their faces. They made their way back to the rest of the group that was starting to form a circle in the middle of the room, their hands never letting go. Kourtney was the first one to spot them, the frown on her face disappearing after noticing Seb’s smile only to arch a brow seconds later with a knowing look.

“Looks like I will have to be retouching Sebby’s lipstick a lot the next few days” she said on a teasing voice. The boys looked at each other with guilty expressions only for Seb to giggle and blush as he realized he had stained Carlos lips with the peachy coloured lip gloss that Kourtney has put on him. “Here” said the girl handing Carlos a makeup wipe that he quickly rubbed to his lips, a blush appearing on his cheeks too.

Once everyone was in the circle, they all held hands as Miss Jenn gave a heartfelt speech that left everyone on the verge of tears that were only held back because the play was just a few minutes from starting. Carlos never let go of Seb’s hand until it was almost time for him to go on stage.

“Hey, honey, you got this, okay? Go and slay everyone on those shiny platforms” said Carlos, squeezing his boyfriend’s hand and giving him a kiss on his cheek, knowing that if he kissed him on the lips now Kourtney will murder him. “I believe in you”
