The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar.

"Good evening, Mr. Sugar," said, well, said this post. Whose job it was to never forget a face. Not least your most lovely visage.

You must forgive us. We find ourselves in something of a straight-faced frenzy for all things whimsical, symmetrical, deadpan, and meticulously crafted—like, by way of example, Wes Anderson's take on the lesser-known Roald Dahl short story: The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar. It features a pleasing color palette, an ensemble cast, a parable of spiritual growth, this idiosyncratic director's visual inventiveness, distinctive style (such style), and Benedict Cumberbatch with a delightful mustache. At this point, we would say something like what's not to like? or need we say more? But why would we say this. There is nothing not to like here. There is nothing else that needs to be said. It's Benedict Cumberbatch—with a mustache. 

We relent. If you really remain unconvinced, we will make the case by sewing together all of the above (the palette, the style ((such style)), Cumberbatch, etc.) and present what we consider one of the finest shots ever put to film. Exhibit A.

On this day, 19 years ago, Aaron Samuels turned to the desk behind him and asked its occupant, young Cady Heron, what day it was. She smiled softly, and her eyes illuminated—the day, she diligently explained, was October 3rd. Things were never to be the same.

On Wednesdays they would wear pink. Losers would get in and go shopping. Moms were no longer just regular—they were cool now. The barriers were drawn between those who could sit with us and those who could not. On the same date in 1911 (or, some say, 1910) the Elrics set fire to their old family home, and the date was to be inscribed on the inside of Edward Elric's State Alchemist pocket watch. And whatever you do, do not have sex. Following the events of October 3rd, you will get pregnant, and let's just say you do not want to know what comes next.

All Things Go Festival.

All things go, if you must get philosophical about it. All things must pass, in the words of the Buddhist maxim. This is none more true of the summer as warmth and sun give way to these chilly weeks, these spookiest of seasons. But the end of summer needn't mean the end of the festival season, so @allthingsgofestival went and did just that: they hosted a music festival. Just this weekend. In both September and October. It was full of female performers. It was queer as hell. Totally bonkers. It scarcely seems possible. It defies belief.

Well, believe it, and believe it well: all things must pass, and all things will. You, I, sunlight, suffering, the online wastelands themselves. But before they do, why not enjoy a good thing while it's there and get the likes of @lanadelrey, @mothercain, @listentomaggie, and @alvvaysto in one space for a weekend of live music? The place being the Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, Maryland, and the place being @allthingsgofestival. We were there. It was the very best of things. And we have some highlights for you—such as this image, one of many, of Lana Del Rey lyrics that decorated backstage.

Today is National Coffee Day, as it happens. Which begs the question: is there anything better than walking in the park, amongst Earthy colors and crisp air, with a warm coffee in hand? Or snuggling up, as rain taps on the window, with a favorite read in one hand and a warm mug in the other? Or those first dark and bitter sips in the morning? The answer, in our view, is almost certainly no. #coffee is the pinnacle. Coffee is, more likely than not, as good as it gets. Then again, we might be wrong. Change our minds. Do your worst.

Hyenas.

We've got some friends we would just *love* you to meet. They're brothers: one works in finance, the other in local government. Quite the pair of charmers, you'll find.
