Until this very moment, there were very few people who had been interested in the manga being published within the city. How they even managed to sell Shounen Jump in a setting like this was a miracle in and of itself, but that was an entirely different issue. Gintoki could always count on being able to get a copy, seeing as there weren’t many avid readers aside from himself.

And then this boy came along. Needless to say, the Samurai wasn’t pleased. Especially with the other’s unwillingness to relinquish it. Already his mind began working, thinking of a way to possibly wrest the issue from the boy’s hands. What could he possibly have come up wi-

That’s... that’s not NORMAL at all! Both he and the Keramon poised at his side recoiled in pure shock. The stranger convulsed and even-- what the HELL is he-- is that BLOOD!?

“UWOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA-- H-HEY, WATCH YOUR AIM!”

Reflextively, Arata bounds backwards, his expression washed over with shock (and a little bit of terror while we’re here). The surprise in question resulted in the hacker dropping his claimed prize on the floor, and the curious Keramon regards it with a cock of its oval head.

“D-do you-- do you need to go to a hospital? Hey-- hey, I’m not gonna be responsible for you dying right now!”

Frustrating situations don’t get along with her already short patience. She has been walking around endlessly (in her narrowed opinion), desperate to find an exit toward the train station with no avail. Zero results, leading to similar spots and whatnot. Screaming had been among her options but not yet, there was still a glimpse of hope.

Clearly, it was delivered coldly but she wasn’t nice enough to deserve a far better warn from a stranger.

And she kicks the ground when stopping in a halt.

“Of course I wasn’t heading over there, I’m not stupid!” Despite her actions entirely proved otherwise, standing where she was about to make the erroneous turn. “…I was only checking it, that’s all!! I got the place down to a notch!” Keeping her cool facade, she begins pointing around in hopes of looking less bad. “A-and don’t go over there either! It has a dead end.”

“Right, right. Checking it, meaning you were this close to bolting in that direction.” Like Arata could even say for certain. His arms cross over his chest, keeping his gaze on the wayward woman.

“Alright, so I’ll trust your word on this,” was what COULD have been his final say if he had not been suddenly stopped by the woman’s words again. His direction’s been chosen prior and he was a few steps into traveling down that street when--

“A-and don’t go over there either! It has a dead end.”

"I-- I wasn’t going down that road, anyways!” Yes, he was.

With that thought concluded, Arata pointedly gestures towards another city. “Okay, then, w-- what about this way?” Why he’s being so snappy is anyone’s guess. Maybe it’s just getting lost in unfamiliar territory.

“That’s… not right,” mused Arata after finding himself circling the same city block twice over. Strange— he could’ve SWORE that this was a completely different direction, but it took him to the same exact spot where he stands now. Agitatedly, his hands jammed into his pockets, nose wrinkling and his gaze flickering to the side to finish the ‘peeved’ look off nicely. At the corner of his eye, a young woman appears from the same path he had traveled just before winding up back here. Why must this sector’s streets be so labyrinthine?

“Hey, you. Lady. Go down that street and you’ll find your way back here again.”

There were many things that were interesting to him. This city was filled to the brim with unfamiliar things, thing that weren’t normal by any standard. And so Ryuunosuke followed wherever his eyes took him. This afterlife was full of thrills and he’d pursue them all, one at a time. Right now this little demon was on his mind. He’d been looking at the way it moved for a little while, muttering ‘cool’ under his breath at least twice. It was only a little later that the young man had realized the person next to the little monster had spoken up. At least they seemed friendly.

“Ah- I’m sorry, I was a little lost in thought.”

He nodded his head in apology before he continued.

“A Digimon? Is that a specific type of demon?”

Discomfort doused Arata, his posture rigid and immediately on edge. Strangers weren’t among the most well-received party to him, especially not ones in a city of which he hardly recognized. There was fortune still in maintaining the companionship with his Digimon, albeit in a weaker state than the form that he had departed his own “world” with. While it’s true that the stranger had apologized, he wasn’t exactly KEEN on accepting it so eagerly and brushing aside the fact that his Keramon had been stared at for lord knows how long.

“No kidding.”

A SIMPLE response is given.

That rigid stance loosens somewhat in response to the stranger’s ultimate question. “Hah? No, they’re not demons. They’re—“

“Wait a minute. Are you sure you’ve never seen a Digimon before? Or heard of the program? At all?”

“May I help you?” The question slipped out all too bitterly from Arata’s lips—perhaps it’s the general situation in general that put the young hacker in a state of unease. Though, it wasn’t Arata who was the subject of this man’s interest, oh no. It was the virus-type Digimon that followed him that caught the other’s interest. His focus flickered between Keramon and the stranger, back and forth once, then twice, and finally Arata speaks up again.

“Have you never seen a Digimon before?”

“Why are you looking at me like that?” Maybe he wasn’t looking at Arata exactly, but the manga he held in his hands. Despite landing himself on unknown territory, Arata had simply decided to take everything in stride and look around, eventually landing himself in a bookstore and zeroing in on fiction pieces that sparked his interest. A grown man eyeballing the same title he’s holding isn’t comforting in the slightest.

“If you want the last copy, then sorry. I found it first-- it’s rightfully mine.”

I’m currently playing Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth and I love the shit out of it. Arata is the biggest dweeb ever and a complete fashion disaster. To be fair, everyone in the game looks like they got dressed in the dark.

If y’all like plot-driven games where you capture, battle, and evolve monsters, I’d highly recommend Cyber Sleuth. The story and characters are quite well-done, too. I was expecting something simple and childish, but it’s actually rather mature at times? The game runs super smooth on my PS4 and it’s extremely addicting.

And I’ve got two huge ships. Guess what one of them is.

Anyway, trying out a simpler style so I can make quick doodles.
